firstly i must say i have looked through some threads from a search so sorry if this is a bit boring, BUT i think i have started to manage to do a chaos flying it in mode 1 on the sim, so feel pretty happy but asked myself the question as to whether it is a real chaos or a piro flip i am doing. with a piroflip are you only using elevator to flip the model while piroeting?
Is the definiton of the chaos that the model is being flipped alternately by the elevator and then the aileron?
is there somewhere that gives the definition of each of the 3D manouvers as i am sure i will want to know about some others

thanks

As far as I know:

o Both use a combination of elevator and aileron cyclic inputs

o Pirouetting flips flip around a constant axis in the same direction (nearly everyone does this)

o A chaos flips continuously around a rotating axis. Ex: At the beginning the flip will be away from you, then it will flip left to right, back to front, right to left, then front to back.

From what I've seen, the definition of a chaos changes with every person I ask.

Someone will correct me here if I'm wrong, I'm sure.

Hey if you are still confused by the difference between the 2 try having a look at the second recording in my gallery. It is a reflex recording of a piro-flip then the four stages of a chaos then all the stages put together. Once you see it should be easier to get your head around hope this helps

U.K. sailor:

check out this page: http://www.rchelicopter.co.uk/moves.htm#

it gives a pretty good description of a lot of 3D moves.

Some time ago I started working on what Curtis named "chaos". However apparently even Curtis has seen only a few good shows of this figure, and it seems that therefore chaos has been "misused" for other figures.

To show that the figure is possible I had a video of it recorded last year and discussed it on RR
