I'm running GY401 with a small analog servo. When I'm hovering and then give full collective, the Heli with do a 1/4 piro as it is moving up, then it'll reset to what it was. Is this normal? Do I need larger tail blades?

Got Money? Send it to me, I'm a Heli Addict.

The sudden collective increases the instantaneous loading on the blades and thus slows down the blades. This in turn slows down the tail thus causing it to lose authority and hence the movement on the tail. The gyro senses this and corrects for it a short moment later.

Larger main blades will actually exacerbate the problem because it will slow the motor even more when collective is applied. The less bogging there is, the less of this problem you will see. Consequently, having a powerful motor turning at high speeds and aquick responding ESC will actually reduce the severity of this problem. Larger tail blades may increase the authority of the tail but it won't solve the initial loss of authority which is due to the motor bogging and not the tail authority per se.

Probably you need a better servo like HS56 or maybe your HH is a bit low - try a higher gain - the 401 can certainly hold if it has a servo than can react as fast as it signals.

Try a better tail servo. Mine jumps like a jack rabbit when you punch it and the tail doesnt move.

As above, the 401/9650 is the way to go!

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it!

I have the 401/9650 combo and mine still rotates a little upon hard climb outs......maybe a higher head speed would help?

I'll try a higher head speed first. What is the 9650 (who makes it)?
