Wow.. I feel special.

I have been ignored by "Go do a searh" after suggesting to him that maybe instead of telling people to do a search 100+ times a day on here, and maybe point out one or two of those searches.

It is quite a turn off to see such people posting multiple times a day for people to do a search.

Sometimes the info is right here, others it is not. Other times, the info is there but a person just has to know certain search key words to better help them find info.

In the future, can we try and help people out by showing them how to search or for what keywords to search for.

On a side note, If someone posts another Evo vs Raptor thread, I do feel the the standard "Do a search" comments are very warranted.

While I agree that this may be a turn-off for some, I have to agree with JB that directing someone to try a search FIRST is not a bad option....most of the topics here on RR have been beaten to death and the "noob" will be better served by doing a search to receive full and complete advise on his/her problem.....

BTW, doing research on your own BEFORE asking the question for the 10th time happens to be proper etiquete no matter what forum you participate in......

On a side note, folks should learn how to use Google or other internet search engines so that they can easily find the answers to many questions......

Sorry you might not agree, but I'm offering my opinion....respectfully.....

Contrary to popular belief on here. Some people are not as computer and internet savy as some of the self proclaimed experts on RR. Suggesting to do a search in a different way would go over a lot better. What if you go up to your local expert at the flying field, or some expert at a fly in and ask a question, and he just turns to you and says...."have you done a search on it?" and then turns to what he was doing before you asked? Would that leave you feeling warm and fuzzy?

totally agree with you grant
i'm glad you brought this up, cause it is really annoying to have some jerk just tell someone to do a search on everything. the whole point of being on a forum like runryder is to share our experiences and to have access to others opinions.

instead of saying "do a search" just ignore the post!

so seriously guys which is better EVO or Raptor??
actually i have asked my fair share of questions, and had a lot of help. Although these days i normally do a search first sometimes i cant find what i want to know, and frustratingly even after finding information once can't remember exactly how to find the information again. it isn't until you are familiar with the forums that you know to do searches anyway, and some like myself struggle with using some of the available technology.
without a lot of patience i doubt i would have the Fury and Vigor on my XTR.
Perhaps with some people it is being lazy, but for others like myself who fly mostly alone as far as the helis go the help i have been freely given has bee imensley valuable and if i had been made to feel a nuisance in the begining perhaps i would have stopped asking.
i say keep trying to help it goes a long way!

The bad thing is that I am on JB's ignore list, so he will never see this topic.. Maybe someone can suggest to him to remove me off the ban list long enought to read this topic.

Like I said before, sometimes all people need to know is a couple "keywords" that can help you out with whatever search you are looking for...
And even yet, sometimes the info is burried within topics with stupid headings or headings that dont clearly describe what the thread is about. In these instances, knowing the correct "keywords" to search for would make all the difference.

I don't think it matters if you are on his or anyone else's ignore list. So what? But I also think if everyone did a search before posting then there would be no new topics on this site. You could put him on your ignore list and never see "do a search" again.

couldnt agree more here..

regardless of times something is posted, there are small details which can be significant between something that actually helps, and something that doesnt. sometimes the info you need is scattered across 10 different posts sometimes its in a single post that COULD be over a year old.

the "vs" threads are a direct spawn of the devil though and end with product war loyalists going at it.

if i find a thread i need further clarification on, i will try and resurect it, however ive found quite a few people wont read a topic thats past a certain age. if i need i will repost and include the original post with my flame suit on and a disclaimer to ward off those who arent actually interested in helping. sometimes its just easier to repost than go through 10-20 pages of search results, especially if i need an answer "right now".

if i run across a thread thats been answered a thousand times and i have a useful thread i will link to that. if i have to search for it i will include search terms i used, how many pages deep it is etc. if its something so obvious and perhaps posted within a few pages of the front page of a specific forum, THATS when i get bothered and pissed because there was 0 effort put into looking for an answer. at that point i will throw a "search is your friend" type of post up.

Telling someone to "go do a search" contirbutes nothing to either the person asking for help or this forum. If this is all you have to offer, just don't, and leave. When someone asks a question if you can't or don't want to answer that is fine, saying "go do a search" just makes you look bad. At the very least if you feel you must post something, do a search and post the link. At least in that aspect you will be of some help. Anything less is a troll post.

I believe Grant H's point is to not just run up a huge post count with the simple phrase "Do A Seach" which is just what JB does.

If you're going to post at all, be interested in the topic and at least "try" to be helpful or have something "real" to say, otherwise please don't bother posting and move on to a thread you "are" interested in and let people with more patience handle the ones you don't care to discuss.

If you recognize something you've seen before and want to recommend a search, offer something specific and maybe try the search yourself then report back with what you think returns the best results.

Afterall, if you're interested in a topic enough to post in it, then you should be interested enough to dig a little yourself and have something to "contribute".

At least post a link.

Seems to me that there was a reason we got two eyes, two ears and only one mouth....so we can look and listen twice as much as we flap our jaws. I kinda' think that's what jb is trying to tell some folks that get on here thinking only about what they want to say vice what others may or may not have said before.

GranthH,
Three things worse than being on jb_turner's ignore list

3. Seven beers, instead of the six pack you thought was in 'fridge'.
2. Heliproz having only a 2-4-1 sale on plugs.
What the heck are you going to do with the extras
1. Winning a 50 size heli w/servos and Tx, instead of the T-REX you though would be a good choice for your first heli. Oh dangit.

RunRyder is a forum for the heli pilot, both new and veteran, to exchange ideas and information. If you need to know why your engine quit, this is the place to be. If your trying to find out where in your area you can find other pilots, this could be your stop. To indiscriminately tell someone to do a search, does no one any good. We were all new to this experience at one time. Imagine if we were all welcomed in the manner that is jb_turner.

DO A SEARCH!!

Some help all.
Some seek help.
Some help no one but themselves.
Just My Opinion

Are you on the list?

Well I know I just don't like it when I see posts that only contain the phrase "Do a search". Especially when it's the same person doing it over and over and over. Why is this person even here and posting if not actually even interested in the topics?

Like I said, If you're going to post, have something to contribute or leave it be.

Duh, "Do a search". That thought just wouldn't occur to the rest of us replying morons. We would never ever have thought of that.

You aren't the only person on this forum that realizes there's a search feature and people with actual interest in the topic can and will use the search feature themselves to help others rather than dismissing them to do it themselves. You've probably seen it before and have a better idea what to look for where as they may be clueless and looking from scratch.

You'll never solve this "problem" . . . ever.

It's annoying when people pop in and ask the same question over an over. It's annoying to read and it's annoying to tell someone to open the idle needle on their TT50 to 6 or 7 turns to break it in . . . FIFTY FREAKIN TIMES.

It's also rude the way JB handles it.

However, if I had to choose, I slightly favor telling people to do a search. Maybe a little more tact would help but they keep coming. We have a relentless string of people who want information spoon fed to them. It's rude of them to blast in here asking which way to turn a screw.

One funny thing about that . . . I have other hobbies and interests and I'm a member of at least a half dozen forums just like this one (RC and non-RC both). This one by FAR has the largest number of rude, volitile and downright hostile personalities.

Not that I'm agreeing with Mark's policies but even he advocates doing a search. Just hover your mouse on "create new topic" for a second and watch the message that comes up.

EDIT: Oh, another factor I just thought of . . . some of the subjects get beaten to death because we don't always agree. We have a contingent of people who give out bad info and then there are always opinions . . like which is really better? A Raptor or an Evo? That debate will continue even after the sun explodes (or implodes, whatever).
