I first want to say, I've hovered my heli outside, 3 days ago, ran 3 packs. Only went up to 10 feet...tail was waging and cyclic seemed slow to respond, but overall ran great.
Today in NY was cold and very windy! I was able to make a few adjustments indoors. The first item to correct was the traking, just stuck the small align red sticker on one blade and put a broom through the skids and weighted the broom down with gym plates. Immediately on runup, I saw the red blade high, and so, increased the pc link on the red blade two turns...spot on now. The second item was to get more cyclic response. I increased the cyclic travel to 60% and slid the flybar weights inboard. I ran a nylon camping cord through the skids, tied to gym plate on each side, allowing about 4in of climb and 4in fwd/aft.left/right etc..I was able to adjust tail rotor neural with gyro off, by watching the tail on power up and hover, and moved the t/r servo fwd or back as needed to keep the tail centered with rudder stick neutral. I can't really test the cyclic response like I need to in actual outside hover...out of ground effect. The last thing I tried to adjust was t/r gain...tail wag. I think I got it better, as sometimes I had the heli maxing out the 4in line, and the heli stayed there...but to work in the bubble effect..I held a bit of fwd cyclic in while I maxed out the vertical. The visual is that of an eager Trex aiming for my wall..tilted slightly forward 4in off the deck! I also know it's hard to get to accurate with t/r gyro adjustments, with the cord yanking on the heli etc...but,I think i safely made some headway. I also want to say, I was standing 'behind'
my large leather computer chair...in case I experienced 'blew' blades.
