My himax 4200 died and I finally got my 400DH over the weekend. This motor is great, I hovered for 7 minutes and the motor can is barely warm. The power is there when I need it and it doesn't heat up my lipo like the himax. I think this motor will work with my MD500 fuselage.

setting:
throttle 0,35,65,75,85
pitch 0,30,40,50,60 (hovering only)
pitch 0,25,50,75,100 (normal flight)

It was free shipping with 2 motors, I got it from http://www.justgofly.com

I have a Himax in my Shogun and feel it and my TP a320 3 cell batts get way too hot.

Any other good replacements for the Himax ?

Hey flyhigh

I agree...that little motor is killer. One quick question though. You said the motor CAN (as in the rotating outrunner portion) was barely warm. What about the very top black part that's against the frame? After a flight, the outrunner portion, where the magnets are, is cool. But the coils are attached to the black portion - which in my case gets quite hot. Not hot enough to burn, but to the point where you almost can't keep your finger on it. I would imagine 130-140F or so?

I'm wondering if my setup is ok because even though I'm finally up to 2400 RPM head speed (had some bad tail vibe problems), I'm only getting about 12 minutes of flight time on a TP 2000. That's some hovering and light FF. Everyone else running around 2000 mAh batts seems to be getting close to 20 minutes of flight time - from what I've read here. I wish!!

You fly...you crash...it's life

c mark smith,

For the price, the 400DH is great. Runs cooler then my himax and has lots of torque. I have a Hughes 500 fuselage and it seems to handle the weight well with power to spare.

PacketStorm,

I flew it for 7 minutes, the black part of the motor was just warm. If I was to fly it 12 minutes straight, I would think it would get hot too. I have two 3s lipo 10C 2000mah, I try not to ruin my lipo by flying 5-7 minutes, rest for 2 minutes and fly another 5-7 minutes. I've heard if you fly until your pack is drain, the lipo gets hot and won't last that long (lipo are expensive for me). I did fly it 15 minutes straight one time and the lipo and motor was very hot (himax motor 8t).

I use the foam blades because its light. I tooked the time to balanced it and it track perfectly (no vibrations). I use MH titanium spindle, MH tail bearings, MH tail slider, and MH aluminum tail pulley & shaft. No vibes even if I set the throttle setting from 85 to 100 percent. But higher then 85 it seems to make my 400DH hunt. Others might differ. This is with a CC25 and SBEC.

Yes the DH is likely imho the best motor for a Shogun/Zoom/Dolphin bar none! *note* letters on the white part
