I was using it with no problems (not with 9254 but with 9253). Fast backward flight upright and inverted, knife edge piros, sideways flips and fast tail slides were executed flawlesly.

Recently I replaced it with a 611 mainly because I had a good opportunity to sell the GY401/9253 and because of a big order in Helikraft I had a good discount so made a small investement.

The 611 is better in piro consistency and holds the tail a little better but I believe that for the average sport flying most of us is used to is not noticable.

I had the combo for quite some time on my 90 std. It will do just fine. I still keep a 401 and servo on hand in case anything goes south with my 601's.

Unless you are flying like Alan or Curtis, the 401 will do fine.

Before the BIG MONEY people start flaming, no it won't hold like a 601 or 611, but for the average income sport pilot the 401 will do.

I have both a 401/9254 and a 601/9251 combo, and honestly, there isn't a huge difference. The biggest thing I see is on the same heli back to back is that the piro rate on the 601 is very consistent, the 401 isn't. If the heli is in a hover, they are equal, but if you are in FFF, and push the tail all the way over, the 401 will whip it around part way, then slow down, and have different rates left and right. The 601 is perfectly consistent in both directions. The only other difference is when I'm trying to find one. The only spot where the 401 would lose the tail and the 601 would hold is if I got it 200 feet or so in the air, and point the tail straight down. The 401 will wander off after 50-60 feet and blow out about 100 feet down, where the 601 will hold it until I pull out.

The 601 has the nice voltage display, that's cool, and I like the nice sealed gyro sensor being out back, with all the controls up front on the 601. With the 401 out back, it's getting bathed in oil, and I just know it's getting in there, where the 601's sensor seems impervious.

I also fly a 502 on one of my 90's. It is better than the 401 and almost as good as the 601.

Keep in mind that the 502 can be hacked and upgraded to a 601 for next to nothing. This is why I purchased a 502. I ended up being happy enough with the 502, that I have left it alone.

parts
parts to convert to 601 are around 5 bucks. The maxim chip is sensitive to static. Also the right tools to solder make all the diffrence from it working and not working. Other than this works great in the gasser.

I have the 401 and 9254 on my R90. Same experiences as above - great for sport and 3D but doesn't give a nice steady piro rate. I will buy a 611 when I really need it - a long time from now!
