Here is the donor helicopter

Ben asking someone to make a set of these for over 6 months

works great and lights up nice and brite. I would suggest 1.5m of glow wire for the canopy as you will see in latter pics I ran out.

I drilled the holes for the zip ties to mount the glow wire.

Here is all the zip ties installed I didn’t use all of them because the 1m glow wire ran short one side.

I chose to mount the Align glow driver in the front of the canopy with all the wire up there it gets kind of crowded

Zip ties pulled tight.

This was my first test of the glow wire on the canopy. Look ok!

Now its starting to look better!

In this pic you can see what I mean about ran short on glow wire. I plan on buying some more glow wire. I think I will use blue and splice into the existing glowwire to outline the windshield at a later date

This pic shows where I put a white dot on the night blades. The blade jumper fits rather lose on this one so I took one of the jumpers and slightly bent it and colored it white also. Now the fit snug.

Out sied Get in ready its around 30 something degress outside and the wind is calm.

I love this shot. From the top view you only see RED and BLUE. From the bottom shot you will see RED and GREEN. Most of the time RED and GREEN will be all that you see.

Now shes getting light on the skids

Now off I go!

Once airborne these blades hover very nicely and fly rather smoothly. Well I flew some figure 8’s and then decided a few stall turns were in order. I love to here the blade noise when you come out of a stall turn. Did some flips and rolls did the inverted thing for a while and then pirouetted out of it. Sorry there are no pics but the camera couldn’t keep up and the pics looked Crapy. At this point my hads were getting cold and cars were driving kind of eratic on the road from watching the dancing lights in the sky. Don’t worry the road is about 4 acres away from my back yard.

Thanks for looking any questions ask.

Very Nice !! Glad to hear the on/off jumper stayed in. What kind of lights are you planning for the skids ? I have some walmart fishing rod tip glow thingys but I'm not sure if they're big enough to see at a distance. I'm dreading that first flight.

Nice job !!

Im going to leave the skids as they are for right now. I might end up adding some glow wire to the skids once I get a second Trex as a day beater. I was getting ready to start building my own night blades. I had all the stuff to do it but once I saw these I had to have them. They look great. you can easily tell if your inverted or normal but what it makes really nice is the rolls. These blades were'nt cheap but well worth every penny I spent.

Now I can fly night and day. Ive always wanted to try nightflying Im so glad I did.

The night gear does add some weight to the heli. There is a noticable diference and I can't say exactly what as I dont have a scale. But just holding the canopies in diferent hands you can tell the diferenc. But my 450th w/13 tooth pinon has no problem.

Well that was the first time I've used them and they seemed just fine. The power seemed constat through out the flight and How do you beat the bang for the buck on these packs. 2 lipo packs for $89.95

Well the blades I took my chances with helihobby.com. I was boycoting them for a year but I saw that they had it took the chance and everything went smothly. MIFIS also should be carying them soon if not already. I've also spoke to Wes over at Modefos and put the bug in his ear the first day I saw the blades. If He gets them in stock I plan on buy another set at a latter date for back up.

Man your bird is bright. I was wondering why did you chose to go all the same color? I have to give you credit for making your own night blades. I was in the middle of doing that my self, but I found out about the manufactured ones and had to get those.

The nice thing about the manufactured ones is you can charge them by AC or DC. The main concern about making a set of night blades my self was the screwing the battery on the blade. It would seem that after screwing and unscrewing to replace batteries that they may become week.

Have you had any problems with yours?

Actually the lights are not the same color. They only look like they are on the picture. The tail boom is wraped in aqua blue, the landing gear is lime green, the blades are white and the nose is dark blue.

I havent had any problems with the batteries yet as im still on the same set with only 10 flights.

I got an email from Align about Invertor Voltage
Dear sir,

Thanks for your mail.

Please ues a battery pack 7.4V.

Have a nice day!

Best regards,

Well Im still running the invertor of my 3cell lipo pack. I does tend to make a small hum, kind of like a transformer thats slightly overloaded. But it still works and the invertor only cost around $8 at modefos.

If you think flying during the day is cool you should try night flying. Orientation is much easier and its a blast.

Well I got bored after dinner at 8:30 so took the heli out and flew 2 more packs. It seemed as if some of the cyclic controls were getting hung up. Need to check over the bird and make sure its up to par. I dont want to spand my new blades in the dirt.

Are you using a PCM receiver? I tried FM PPM receivers and the light strings would make the servos go nuts. The only way I could use them was with a PCM receiver. Also you can use Aligns 5th switch to power the Align inverter. You can use up to a 3 cell 11.1 lipo with it. You use a spare channel on the radio to turn the lights on and off and it has an out put for LEDs too. I have a small problem with mine though, sometimes it wont turn on with the radio switch but if I have the switch in the on position when I power it up then it will come on every time.
You can find the 5th switch on fxaeromodels web site, look under switches
