I agree - I did not like either person's interpretation of our national anthem but I think those two were chosen to put a New Orleans kind of spin on it in honor of Katrina victims. At least Roseanne
wasn't chosen to do it again.

BTW - Remember Jimi Hendrix's version?? Anybody dislike that one??

Aretha Franklin and Aaron Neville accompanied by pianist Dr. John both sang portions of the National Anthem. You couldn't hear Aaron at all and Aretha had the choir helping her out. All in all, just have a guy sing acapela (spelling).

A guy singing accapella? heresy!

Everyone knows It's supposed to be a fat opera lady with huge breasts almost poping out, belting it out with far too much vibrato, and holding extra long on some high note that makes everyone's ears bleed and beer mugs explode.... violins, trumpets flutes, oboes, kettle drums and symbols only.

I didn't see it, but from what i hear it sounds like all they did was play it their way. If it wasn't intended to be disrespectfull it isn't disrespectfull.

If some artist wants to express himself a littel diferently than the status quo, then thats exactly what they should do. they shouldn't be hassled about it, especially in a coutry that prides itself in the value of individual.

I'm sorry......does anyone but me have a problem with that last reply? Its one thing to say you dont like a performance but quite another to add the racially motivated undertones. Just my opinion.

Was waiting for the "one" to show his ignorance. The same could be said for Rosanne Bar when she did disgraced the anthem. If you don't like it then that's fine but don't add the racial remarks as well. There are probable other's here that think the same bullsh!t but just didn't come out and say it. I for one am offended by his remarks but it's America and he has the right to say what's on his mind. He is a racist plain and simple. If he has a problem with me calling him one then he can take it up with me someplace else!!!

At every national game there is always someone who F#@!ed the song up white or black. Like or hate it the racial remarks are unnecessary!!!

I dont care who was singing it, it was pathetic and an insult, especially to someone like myself whose job is to defend the flag. Its one of those songs not open to interpretation. Throwing in your own personal flavor makes me think you are bigger than the song, and bigger than america, sorry, dont think so. How hard is it to sing it normal?

I agree with trackmajic, sing like an american, who is proud of it,I could barly hear the words he was saying anyways, it is like when the black history club gets there black history month presentation, and they sing the Anthem, they put thier twist to it, and I mean you have to sing it because not doing so is unpatriotic, and that would be bad for what it represents, but when you are singing it with your "ebonics" or the style at the super bowl, it is an insult, not to just me, but to America, and Flyinrazrback well said...when is the last time I heard the Anthem sung right at a pro sports facility....well mud drags, drags and tractor pullin is all I can think of........but it needs to be sung right...

Yea, I see you know everything but can see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch????

Flyinrazrback well said!
If you want to hear the National Anthem sung as it should be watch a Detroit Redwings home game. They have a gal named Karen Newman and when she sings the anthem it makes me proud.

No I just dont like the "we want to be free, and equal. WITH BENIFITS!"

What benifits? Glad you asked!

Benifits like having your 100K college tuition paid by me, WHITIE TAX PAYER!

Your free. Your equal. Now pay for your own XXXXX college! Got a problem with that? Tought XXXX.

Actually am NOT racist. I just think fair is fair. Why should I or anyone else pay millions of dollars for another races college fund? Year after year, decade after decade, with NO end ever in sight? I wont argue my point of view. If you like to paint me racist, fine. Then have it your way. I am RACIST! OOOOOOO! Scandelous!~

Guy's I feel for you I sat and shouted at the tv 3000 miles away.
It was a travesty. Hasbeens should have stayed home, and by the way the Stones should have stayed home too, what ever talent they had age has robbed them

Not to defend the Stones or anybody else, but I have run sound in large outdoor venues. First off, it's hard to get anyone to sound great at any other place than in the first 75 yards from the front of the stage. Second it is even harder for that sound to be "good" to the folks sitting at home listening for the most part through tiny little speakers.....I know some have home theater...but still many things get lost in translation. And lastly I didn't hear the anthem sung...thank goodness.

While I was not impressed with the rendition of our anthem at the Super Bowl, I certainly wouldnt use the word "Disgraceful". I did however hear a version early last year that truly was "Disgraceful".

Who was it performed by?....John Michael Montgomery
Who is he?......White country singer
Where was it performed?......Golden Coral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Why was it "Disgraceful"?....Because he was very obviously drunk or drugged while he sang it and stumbled over most of it.

I say sing it the way you want as long as your not doing it drunk in front of 200,000 people.
And for those of you most "offended".....why dont you try to sing the anthem right now, while no-one is around. Go on try it. I'll bet most of you cant even get through the whole song without making a mistake or forgeting words. Can I do it? probably not! And I listen to it a minimum of 3 times a week during racing season.

Just my opinion

Bad singing
I too have heard bad singing from alot of singers of many colors...remember the lady who did not even know the words and butchered it all up? A man came up and helped her get through the Anthem...Color did not matter, but funny how that doesn't come up at those times.
