Sorry, I don't know regulator model or why failure. Will find out.

I do know that he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express one night.

If you use a servo that moves easily when not powered such as a 9253 or 9254 and your throttle linkage is nice and smooth, yes, the spring is strong enough to pull the throttle closed. I had both my PGs setup like this and it worked. I quick test one day while at idle proved that the throttle would go closed pretty quick and kill the engine. The vibration of then engine seems to help it move as well.

JKos,- I'm using a 9253 on my Hyper50 and it does require very little force to move it so I would expect a fairly weak spring would be just the ticket. I use a 9254 on my OS91 and that setup requires substantially more force to move so I suspect a spring sufficient to overcome the force would load up the servo way too much for comfort.
It would be quite neat to devise a system whereby when power was applied, it would also open a flap over the carb air intake. In this way if electrical power did fail, then the flap would automatically shut and kill the engine. Trouble is, that this MUST be reliable

p.s. Lessons have been learned on my end... no one hurt... I've gotten more safety conscious... MAAC (modelers insurance)... and fly at a Club field with other pilots.

Gotta love the kids!
The best part is listening to the kids talk..."make it run into the forest", "stay in the picture", "I'm next, I get two minutes doing it!", "my dad is going to put it online...but its not over yet!!", "put more batteries in it", "its over..."
