if he didn't build it and was new to the hobby, it was probably a reasonable question for him to ask - in the house and no wind he wouldn't understand that the helicopter will still drift - he probably thought it was just meant to hover

not heli related nor a "stupid" question
but worth sharing...

At a local high class marina/resort there was a free concert (hall and oates...and long time ago) at the end one patron came into the office to complain about it...my then boss simply smiled and said..."i'll be happy to refund your money if you have the ticket stub"

His expression was "priceless"

i try not to fly around 'normals' (non-rc types). my regular field is way out in the boonies, and isnt even visible from the desolate paved road you do take to access it. so, i havent heard too many questions at all aside from ones i'd expect to hear.

but, a month or so ago i was programming a ccpm micro and just stepped out of my front door for a spoolup in the driveway to trim it, and out come the idiots.

in a manner of 3 minutes there was a 16 yr old male, a ~9 yr old male, and a 45yr old male...all unrelated.

they came at me rapidfire:

how much'at cost?

where'dja get it?

c'nat fly upside down?

'sat thing hard to fly?

how high will it go?

will you do it?

why not?

none were really dumb, i guess except for the 'how high?'...i've never really understood that question (altho it did come from the 9yr old). how fast? sure. how much? sure. but, how high? wtf?

anyway, i trimmed it, landed. announced the batteries were dead and turned around and walked in. hopefully they were unimpressed enough to not bother coming out in the future.

i know, i know. i wasnt being a very good ambassador for the hobby. show a little real interest--or better yet ask to come out to the field with me and i'll answer questions until your ears fall off on the 1/2 hour drive each way.

if it ain't broke, break it.

I got one the other day that has to be a stupid question. I don't care how questions are supposed to be reguarded. I usually answer all of the "usual" questions, but I just had to sit my heli down and turn to the guy that asked this with a very disgusted look on my face. And the question is......"What would happen if you run it into that building over there?" Now tell me that is not a stupid question.

I also got questions like
Can I mount rockets on it
Can you mount a machine gun on it
etc

I guess these are not dumb questions but questions from people who have seen too many movies.
Or put another way movies maybe make people dumb

......"What would happen if you run it into that building over there?"
you should tell him to buy one and try it for himself, tell him it's alot of fun and that it won't even break.

You could reply "If it gets within a 5 metre proximity of the building the helicopter detects it, and uses electrofusion to somewhat disintigrate and go straight through the building" - Confuse him with whatever bulls**t you cank think off lol - "how does it do that?" - "its magic"

Then when you tell them that last one they ask "can you hit me with it I'll split the money with you"
My response: Sure but sign this release form first and let me get it authenticated by my lawyer....Oh and I'll only do it if I can fly it into your nads so you cant procreate.

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

Not RC related, but...

Years ago I was a cable tv installer (Cable Guy!). Often we were asked, "Why do you installers sometimes use white cable and other times use black?"

After a few years of this I began responding by looking the customer right in the eye and answering, "First we check the picture quality on your tv. If it looks dark or dim we use the white cable 'cause it brightens up the picture. If it looks too bright then we use the black cable to darken it down some."

And every one of them believed me.

"Does that thing REALLY fly"?

-----

As for non-RC stuff, in 1979, I lived in Bozeman, Montana. In February of that year, Bozeman was in the path of totality of a solar eclipse. People were asking where you could buy tickets to see the eclipse. D'oh!
