Berg vs. Futaba 146ip
Been searching for a Futaba 146ip and came across the Berg. I see most here use the 146ip, but I have always heard good things about the Berg. They have been out of production for a while, but now are available again. The Berg is also cheaper. Basically, who has had them both, or one and can give more info on it? I am tilting to the 146, but don't want some more experienced info.

I had an older Berg on some of my FP stuff..I did like the receiver. At the time it was the only guy out there with DSP. Fo a single conversion receiver, it was pretty damn good.

I ran with the Berg for a while until I got a hold of an FMA duel COnversion Receiver. That was a pretty good reciever too. Smaller than the Berg....

As for the 146i, I love the PCM feature. It has a better tolerance for glitching plus there is a failsafe feature....

I read somewhere that you cannot remotely adjust gyro gain say with a 401, with a Berg Rx, any truth to this?

Not, trying to start a rumor, just trying to clear up a question?

Thanks,

Got the bergs in both T-rexes never had a problem or a glitch in over a year, as far as the new ones coming out, I would wait and let others be a beta tester for the new bergs from castle creation, I think a lot more people would have them in there t-rexes if they would'nt have gone out of production, when cc bought the company last year, and stopped production when the t-rex became so popular last year. If you check these forums from over a year ago you will find that it was pretty much the rec. of choice then.as far as the futaba you cant go wrong either, another great rec.YRCHA CLUB MEMBER

I have a Berg 5, Hitech Electric 6 and Futaba 146ip.
The 146 is the only one I haven't had any glitches or lock outs with.

Finless (LOL) I live in Futaba country, we have more 8u's and 9c's that you could shake a stick at lol, very few JR's,I think as long as you use a pcm or something that acts like a pcm rec, your way better off in a heli, who wants to glitch inverted a inch off the ground, and in ten years of flying pcm rec's, never had a lock out yet.YRCHA CLUB MEMBER

If i had the money i'd switch everything over to 146iP's..

But:

I've used berg's for years and never had a problem. Since the new
berg7's aren't shipping yet i decided to put a MikroDesigns SPF-5 in my new Trex. So far im very impressed.. Small, light (4grams), great range and glitch free.

Futaba
Well I too converted from the JR(10x) to Futaba(T9chp) and feel better with Futaba.T-rex has everything elseFutaba except cyclic servos, so might as well go PCM too. The 146ip does need special crystals(short) right?

One reason I would stay away from the new Bergs for awhile is quality control. Actually they're Castle Creations, because Peter Berg sold his business to CC. And CC have sort of a reputation for rushing things to market and doing a bit of public beta testing now and then... how many firmware updates have we had in the last year? 15 or 20 maybe? Anyway, not saying they'll be poor receivers, just that I would wait until they've been out and in use for a little while before trusting a heli to one.

I have 6 of the FMA Quantum 8s in electric chopper with no issues. They are dual channel with great filtering. They are also small and light weight for an eight channel rx. Priced right at $49.99. I have tried several other FM rx's with not much success.

I think alot depends on the conditions you are flying in. I run the older Bergs in a few models still<foam planks>. The only time they twitch is when flying in a golf dome at the same time as about 15 other people. It is very minor, but it is there. Outside flying in normal conditions they have always been flawless. I now run 146ip's in the dome in both my trex's, so far they have not had a single glitch.

I do like the Berg's, but when it gets down to it, I'd rather have the 146ip in my trex.
