Revlock 10 setup problem
Well, I got my Concept SRII 90 in the air today but all was not well.
Mu setup is :
Concept 60 SRII
8US Transmitter
148 DP recever
401/9254
9202's on everything else
YS-91
Custom Gearing to get 8.49 Gearing (45/71/13/70
The Sensor setup was a bit of a PIA due to the fan being about 1.5" further away from the engine mount and space constrants. But I fabricated a sensor mount from carbon and all looked good.

I set it up using chanel 7 and set per instructions to get 13500 (1590 head speed) and 14750 (1737 head speed)

I have some 680 blades but I did the inital flying with the original 660 blades.

The problem is the govonor does not work. As soon as I get up to the throttle position where it engauges it ocilates from zero throttle to the set RPM about 3 time a second. It does the same at both switch settings. I double checkd eveyting even rechecked the sensor clearance It was about 1mm I put it as close as I could withour it touching no help. (It pases the sensor test with two flips)

Another thing I noticed was the not all RPM's are avalable with the 8U because the ATV will only got down to 37 which makes the lower 5 setting unavalable in each range.

I then set it up in manual for 13500 RPM as it did the same thing. any thoughts?

several possibilities......

the Revlock is much less tolerant of rich engines than the others.
the 'hunting' you are seeing is *usually* a sign of it being
too rich for the Revlock.

Also, did you adjust the tiny screwdriver pot. on the Revlock?
that lowers the system 'gain'.

you could also be using too slow a servo (could try messing
w/ arm lengths to increase app. speed).

one or all of the above things is contributing to your problem.

try leaning carefully and lowering the 'gain' first.

I run into the same problem with setting the rpm. What I ended up doing is going to the lower rpm range and using a higher rtv to get the rpm I wanted. I think by doing it this way all the rpm's will be available. Chuck

Thanks for the replies.
z11355: It make sense to me. I have a small wheel an am using the full range of the 9202 which is not the fastest servo in the world . So, it was over shooting and shutting off because of the slow servo, so I will put a big wheel on it and lower the ATV's to get the range. I think you saved me a bunch of time beating my head against a wall.

cwright: Yea I did that but it still miss about 4 ranges on each band

Doug,

I'm not convinced of your theory and it wouldn't be the first
things I'd try.

My thinking is that if the 9202 & small arm are effectively
too slow, then what happens is that it now starts acting
as a 'filter' to smooth out performance and it wouldn't actually
be hunting.

the hunting tells me the system has too much 'gain' or is
otherwise unstable. In control theory, this would be an
underdamped system.

take a look at this and disregard the equations

Read the faq at http://www.rcmodels.org/csm

If I remember right it addresses your problem but I know the revlock acts nutty when the motor is rich. Did you bypass the governor and tune the motor first?

thats the funny thing.

in most cases, what people consider a 'well tuned' motor is
quite rich for the Revlock.

so get it tuned as well as possible off-governor and then
start slowly leaning on-gov.

and USE that adjustment on the RL10

Thanks for the replies. It fly's ok with the governor off and I don't think it is too rich, but I will address that as well. I am in the "non ds" mode. Ill take at look at the faq's. First member of Member of Bearings Anonymous

I had big problems using a 9202 as throttle servo. I had to lower the gain as low as 30% from totally closed.Don't ask me why but as soon I changed to a cheap 3152 Digital servo the difference was between night and day. My gain is now at 50% and no hunting or overspeeding.

Regards
Tony
