Best battery for 9Chp transmitter
Hello all. My 9chp has only got the standard 700mah battery in it and charging it all the time is now starting to bug me. What batteries are you guys using and where did you get them. I need a supplier that ships overseas as I'm in New Zealand. Does rcradical still exist as I cant seem to track them down. Should I remain with Nicad or is NiMH fine with Transmitters. I dont want to go the Duralite way. What is the biggest capacity I can use.

Thanks in advance

I make up my own packs using GP 1800mAh cells. Gives about 7 hours flying time. No problems.

Radical RC still exists.

I used an 1100mah nicad in my 8U and it pretty
much lasts me most of the day.

So I can use a NiMH with no problems. There seem to be people that think that you should only use Nicad batteries because the NiMH run down VERY quickly towards the end of their charge. Is this true with TX batteries. rcradical do this......Radical RC 2500mah NiMH 8 cell 9.6V Square TX Pack which is what spritefiend uses. I just want something that will do me through the day and not have to worry about it.New Zealand Helicopter Sheep Hearding Champion :-)

id say yes. i pretty much use all nimh's, my 12v starter has 2 6cell 3300ma nimhs and it runs fine. the nicad vs nimh is just discrimination imo theyve got valid points blah blah blah. there is a low voltage alarm for a reason too.
I just want something that will do me through the day and not have to worry about it.
that DEFINITELY wont be a problem! on the 2500's i could fly 2 full days before i needed a recharge. these were 10-12flight + per days too. i get 10-11mins on my sceadu 50s, you do the math.

I just picked up the 2500mah model from radical. It's got to be better than the stock 700mah that comes stock with the 9CHPS.

I don't even remember where I got it from but I have an 1100MAh NiCd in my 9CHP. I keep the old battery charged and fly and until the larger one gets to a point where I need to replace it. Swap the batteries out and run on the smaller one, charge up the larger one that night and keep running on the smaller one till it needs replacing. That way I don't have to worry about charging either one as I just cycle them through.

I also have some planes that I fly on a 7CHP with the smaller battery. Same deal, I swap it out when it is low.
Got Money? Send it to me, I'm a Heli Addict.

You are putting a damaged LIPO in your transmitter?
Have you seen the damage a LIPO fire can cause?

The last place I would put a damaged LIPO would
be in my transmitter.

Clearsky, to be honest I dont know why. I really dont know a lot about Duralite batteries and how they work plus the pros and cons. I'm not the most orgainised person around so remembering to charge batteries is hard enough so I thought "normal" batteries can be quick charged at the field if need be. I also thought the set up cost is quite a bit higher than $34 for a 2500 NiMH battery. Its really not something that I have looked into. I can be a bit old school some times. I have read on heli's they are great but set up cost is high. Is this correct? Also my charger is only Nicad or NiMH.New Zealand Helicopter Sheep Hearding Champion :-)

duralites do have a very hefty initial cost!! no doubt about that.

charging them at the field with THEIR charger isnt exactly convienient, if you use your own, you can crank them past the .4ma charge rate they use, however that bypasses their saftey features built into the charger and it voids the warranty. therefore quick charging at the field isnt completely possible.

i absolutely despise charging at the field, of all things unholy in the world charging at the field is right at the top. i throw all my duralite stuff on after a day of flying at the field and they sit ready to be used whenever i need them. ALSO, theyre normally good for 2 days worth of flying before needing a recharge.

on top of all of that, i have 2 tx packs for my stylus, even if i forget to charge the one in the tx the backup will get me through whatever the day throws at me.
