I have not heard of a Stratus with a tempest head, as far as i know it only come with a extreme head, they are both very good machine's.

Ok I´m in for F3C FAI. And the idea was to put a Tempest FAI F3c head on the Stratus or go for the Tempest FAI.
Hope that this clear things up!

Tjena Per!
There is a version with 7.75 gear ratio and tempest fai head.
I'v got the 3d-version 8.18 with os engine, i am so far very impressed with its perfomance it rolls straighter than most airplanes i have seen.
The new frame with the high cg must have an advantage over the tempest frame in the new f3c manuevers.
If you get close to Örebro you could test fly my stratus.

If I were to use a MA machine again for F3C, this is what I would use. The Tempest head hovers really well. The stratus frameset layout is better than the Tempest in terms of fuel tank location.

The thing that Tempests always suffer from is small fuel tank syndrome. When I used to use one in F3C, I couldn't afford to be too slow in the hovering otherwise I'd run out of gas. The Sylphide I'm now flying has tonnes of fuel cause of it's larger tank.

I'm not sure what size tank the Stratus has, but it's something to consider.

The stratus comes with a 500cc fueltank, that gives me about 6min of 3d. I know that tim is working on a bigger tank.

Tempest FAI head on Stratus
I have a Stratus and I have the Tempest FAI head as well as the Standard 3D Head, I have two set ups in my Transmitter and can easily switch between the two.

Although I am no competition winner I find the Stratus with the FAI head a superbly smooth and precise machine to fly, I know a number of guys on this forum and Heli Freak who fly FAI comps are flying this combo with great success, GM1 is one guy to talk to.

When I get bored of practising FAI I can switch into Idle up 2 and practise some mild 3D with the same head or I can switch heads and do a bit of stick bashing (albeit badly )

FUEL TANK
with the YS91 on 8.18 and the FAI head running at a hover speed of 1450 - 1500 RPM I am getting over 10 mins of flying time with a Header tank, there is a new tank due out shortly which is bigger and should give up to 15 mins.

Stratus FAI
I am in the process of building my second Stratus FAI for use in F3C. I am using the open TR gearbox with TR mounted on the right, rear mounted TR servo, and Tempest FAI rotor head with the .9:1 flybar ratio. In flying trim with no fuel, my first Stratus weighs 10 lbs 2 ozs, almost 2 lbs less than the XL Pro IIK-T I was flying last year. The improvement on vertical performance is significant and the model autos like a feather.
I am just now getting the model trimmed for competition and really like what I am seeing. Blade choice and fin size DO make a difference in how this model performs. With the stock tank, 7.91 gear ratio, 1450rpm in hover and 1980 in forward flight, I am getting 15-16 minute flight times.

Old treads never dies...

Gordie, what fin size are you using now? I plan to use a ION-X with tempest head and I guess that 3D fin are not soo good...
