what motor for voyager ?
I have two voyagers one had the motor freeze up (astro 020). I sent the motor in for repair; I'm thinking that I should be replaceing that motor with a different brand. The other heli has a hacker C40/8L a very good motor; but pricey. I'd like to look at something a little less costly.
what are the rest useing?

Astro 020 freezes too...
Hello melvonnar, my Astro 020 freezes up 2 days ago. I saved my heli with the auto-rotation! I hope Astro will repair it also... I replaced it with a Hacker C40 8L. It is better, stronger and... heavier. I also replace the junk stock tail with a raptor tail. The raptor tail (see my gallery) is stronger, better and... heavier. I think I have now a stronger and better Voyager and a really too heavy helicopter ;-) I use lipo 323p and 3s4p (I need now weigh on the front...) and I start to believe that 11 volt is not enough for that kind of heavy heli. Never use also the wood stock blade, they crack easely and if some air go inside, they explose in the air. Then, instead to try converting what JR did worse (the Voyager stock Motor is a joke), I start to believe that I should better buy a Logo ;-)
Good luck !

I wonder if a Jeti 30-3 would be a good moter for the voyager; 1/2 the price of a hacker. a member of the club is flying an eco8 with that motor and it fly's just fine.

Hacker C40 8L the best...
I don't know this motor but with all I read on this forum, the best seems to be the Hacker C40 8L. My hobby seller told me that the Twist 37 is the same and cheaper. You can save 30 $ with it. Put 16-17 or 18 T pinion because the hacker is stronger but run more slowly than the breakable Astro 020.

You can use a Hacker B40-8L ( add a heatsink)
or you can use a Hacker C40-8L (has built in heat sink same motor as B40-8L)

Also I have seen people mention C40-9L, but not sure if it is better or not
-= I know there is Money in RC helicopters. I put it there=-

I'm going to try to use the JETI 30-3 if I can find pinions to fit it.
This is a strong high tourque motor that develops power at low rpm. (15,000) and under. I'm looking for 5MM shaft 32 pitch pinions from 23 to 27 teeth.

I've always thought the Astro 020 looked a bit marginal on paper for a Voyager. Seems like it's true in pratice.
Hacker C40 (10 or 11s) or Twist 37 get my vote.

It would take a lot to get the Phasor to work, with it's kv at 1100, it needs a huge pinion. On a 3S lipo pack you'd be looking at a 54 tooth pinion to get in the 1700-1800 headspeed range. The rpm is limited to 15k, so the highest you could run is a 3S pack anyways. No way taht's going to work unless you find a monster pinion, and it might have a really high amp draw.

I'd go for the C40-8L (what I got), C40-9L, or Twist 37.

I will try next week a Neu 1907 brushless motor with 10T motor gear and 6S1p / 6S2p li-po battery... because with my Raptor Tail, this heli became more stable... but so heavy that 3S is under-power at all. It is 1.750 kg with a 3s3p. It is now almost the same weight than a Swift... Any suggestion?

I came to the same conclusion after a lot of study----the 8/L is the way to go --if they wern't so darn costly.

C40 10what?

There are two versions of the C40, a long and a short. The most common in the Voyager seem to be an 8 or 9 long. I went for a 10 short because the short is a full 40g lighter than the long. The 10s is quite revvy so ideally you need a 13 or 14 tooth pinion. The 11s should work with the standard 15 tooth. This all applies to using 3s lipo.

My Voy has the C40-11S motor, runs cool, good power on 3S.
15 or 16 pinion, cant remember with over 150 flights on her.
Still dear though, but it,ll see my Voy out.
Couldnt say whether theres more power than the 'L' models, never tried one.
Bought it from the top Hacker dealer here in the UK,after much research by him........

By design the "L" series will have more torque than the "S" models. Sure you save 1.4oz, but with the torque loss you'll run a little higher amp for the same kv, probably doesn't affect run time much at all though. But, it would be really cool to get like a Hacker C40-21S (1988kv), slap on a 8S 2100mah TP pack, nice high voltage setup. Weighs about the same as a 3S3P (6000mah) C40-8L setup. I bet the run times wouldn't be too far off, and the rpm is within the motor specs. Not sure about the voltage though (30.4v!!).

Geez, I want to try that out!

Yes that would be fun, just think under 10 amps.I,ll bet there would be no bogging under load too with the high volts and the easy load for the bats.In theory would run cool too.
Pinion sourcing might be a problem though.

This might be a cheap motor that would probably work;
http://www.e-flight.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=414
On a 4S,light too.plus heat sink.
My brother a while back bought a second hand Voy.He already had HET2W so tried it with a heat sink with an 8 cell Kan.It flew but did get quite hot though, but still working today!78gram motor!Tough little motor........

Point of interest.... i have a Hacker fitted but it is purple in colour (all over) as is the heat sink but other than a number "8" written on the base in what looks like white marker pen there are no distinguishing marks on it at all!
Can anyone tell me how to identify the exact model?

Whatever it is i would recommend as it performs with 15T Spindle superbly.

Cheers

Martin
