I think they are the BEST motor for the T-Rex bar none, and I've tried alot of motors. The guys at the shop bust on me cause I've spent so much on motors I coulda bought a Logo10.

Sure, the Neu 1105 is more efficient, and the 1107 has more power (at a 20g weight penalty) but the MR28-32-3400 is the best fit for 2000-2200 size batteries.

Combine that with the price and availability (try finding an 1107 right now) and it's the best option out there.

on my setup with a CC25 and an Apex 3S1P 2200 pack:

10T for 2400RPM/stock plastic parts (get your 10T from FXaero-models)

11T for 2500-3000RPM/metal head CF blades for absolutely SICK climbout and imperceptably low bog.

Search the threads for more on the Medusas- there are alot of happy customers, and no, I don't sell them.

If you really want to go whole-hog pair the 28-32-2800 with a CC25 and a 4S 2000 prolite pack. You'll need a 2A BEC with that setup tho-

No need for an external BEC with the Jazz esc, the Jazz will do a 4S high performance system without bec without issues. This motor is good, I run mine on an 11 tooth. I think 13 tooth would be good as well, only I can't imagine cutting down my flight times more than they are now, on 3S prolites with the 3400 Medusa on 11 tooth I fly 7 minutes tops and putting back in 1650-1725 mah which as much as I want to put back into the 2100 mah lipo. Ditch the CC45 and external, get the Jazz 40-6-18 and be done with it, thats just my opinion,, but whatever makes your head spin. ...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

How does the Medussa 3400 on 3S/11T compare to the 450TH on 3S/13T? I ask in order to get a sense of the power of the 3400.

Thanks everyone for the input.
BUT why the 028-032-3400(206Watts) over the 028-040-3400(302Watts)?
Don't you want more watts?

Barkcollar... the -040 is a longer heavier can. The motor is for sure sick too, but the power/weight/size ratio of the -032 is better for the T-Rex.
I'm another one who loves the MR motors. They rock! I have one in my T-rex and love it. And I fly w/ TheDudeVT and can tell you his set up rocks balls big time. He loves the crazy head speed stuff and his Rex does not bog at all.

I currently have a 28-32-3400 in my T-Rex with an 11t pinion and the power is great. I get about 2900RPM using a 98% throttle curve in non gov mode on my CC35 controller. I am using TP 2100 Pro Lites and I get about 6 to 7 minutes of hard 3D. The 40-3400 is over 90 grams and is a 300w motor like the NEU 1107/2y but you do add 20g of weight to the machine. I think the 1107 and 40-3400 will be very similar in power.

I believe that the added weight to the T-Rex makes it more stable and allows it to perform maneuvers better IMO. I am not a fan of really light helicopters that can climb like a bat out of hell as these helis are too fast as it is and the added weight helps to stabilize them.

I am converting to a HV setup because the torque running on 4s is awesome. You will need an external BEC when using any other controller other than the Jazz but I prefer a 6v setup anyway and the Jazz only has a 5v BEC. A 6v 2A BEC will be fine in the T-Rex.

I have recently run the Medusa 3400 w/11t pinion and the power and headspeed was off the scale. This motor performs very well on 4s but I think it would have been better if I could have used a 9t pinion like the NEU on 4s.

You will not be disappointed with Medusa products and I would recommend them to anyone.

ledfoot,

How hot does the 28-32-3400 get with 3S after a 3D session? (Don't forget to cite ambient temp.) And how hot is this relative to other motors you have tried?

The DudeVT,
So the CC 25 is good to use? Do I need an extrnal BEC? How many amps does it pull? And what blade and size are you using ?
I really want to fly hard 3D some. I'm getting good with what I've got just bogging.and it's getting hard to see.

The Medusa 3400 w/11t pinion is about 125 to 135 deg after 6 minutes of hard 3D. The TP 2100 Pro Lites are about 100 deg after the flight. My setup with cc35 controller funning 98% in non gov mode draws about 23amps wiht 30amp peaks. This was measured while holding the heli so I would assume that the current draw in the air would be slightly less. It's currently winter so I have been flying in temperatures near 0 deg celcius.

The Medusa 3400 is a very powerful motor and is very efficient. I haven't tried another motor yet in my T-Rex but I have the NEU 1107/2y coming in tomorrow so I will be able to report back on that one. I will be running the NEU on 4s though.

yes the CC25 is fine, as long as you get a new (since Sept.) one with the 3A BEC. The only difference between the 25 and 35 is weight, so if you're not a gram-freak like me use what you got.

A BEC is not needed unless you go 4S or higher-

Not sure about amps, but i get a solid 11 minutes on a 3S 2200 pack- and that's with a throttle setting of 100-70-100 which is not the best for efficiency (it's indoor season, 3K headspeed is just too scary when you're in close)

motor temps are not very hot, maybe 130 or so after three packs in a row, but I have an align heatsink on there too- definitely not temps I would worry about-

I fly with 315 gray woodies, 325 gray woodies, 315 align carbons and 325 Mavrikks- depends on what i have unbroken at the time. The motor just doesn't bog- even with the heavy Mavrikks.

go for it BarkCollar, you won't regret it- I'm no 3D master, but I know climb-out when I see it. She's a rocket ;O

What pinion to use?
Just the people I need some advice from if possible. I have a 28-32-3400 medusa coming my way which is going to be running with quark esc and fp2100 3s evo 20 batteries. I want this thing to fly like "s*!t off a shovel" without cooking the batteries.

Which pinion is the best to use and how much of a difference do they really make?

Off to fly the raptor now - let's rock!! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Thanks

Harmdive,

You can start with an 11t pinion which will give you a headspeed of about 2900RPM at near 100% throttle.

Can anyone tell me the reason the MR-028-032-3400 is preferred over the MR-028-032-4200? All things seem to be equal except a little higher amps and higher kv._______

It would be hard to find a proper pinion to fit the 4200. Even with a 10 tooth pinion head speed will be over 3100rpm
