Hey,
I should think so! i use CP 15% for ages and it seemed fine, produced nice smooth power without being raspy although i found i got better results when i moved upto 20% CP Heli Version (Orange). With this the engine produced more power and ran much cooler with the extra nitro and oil which made for a richer needle setting.

With the 15% CP i would say it would be fine for what you want to do with it but i would advise that you keep a check on the engine temp, with constant abuse you may find you could overheat the engine.

If anything i would say go the 20/20 Coolpower 20% Nitro heli version with 20% oil (Orange/Pink in colour), the extra oil/nitro will run a richer needle setting allowing the engine to run cooler.

I run Magnum 30% in my engines now, runs much better than CP and the price is great.

Cheers!

If the cost of Nitro keeps going up, it may drive a lot more people to using lower % fuel. I'll keep mixing 30% for now, but man, it's getting outrageous what the high quality Nitro cost is by the drum."Who said obsession was a bad thing"

Something that people need to keep in mind is the raw costs of all the material needed to mix fuel has went up, and most likely will again. That just leads to higher prices per gallon. If the prices don't go up I would be a little leery of what I was getting. There are different purities of Nitro and different purities of Methanol. Unless you are buying the products yourself it would be hard to say for sure they are the highest grades available."Who said obsession was a bad thing"

Yo Xeno - what heli/engine/muffler/blades do you have? You can go a long way with a powerful engine (OS etc) matched to a good pipe (MPII or personal choice) and decent blades. I chucked my TT90 and replaced it with an OS 90SZ - now everything is possible! I fly 680 blades on my R90 and am looking forward to reasonable 3D with our local brand fuel (15% Nitro, 20% Klotz 200).Rob.

Hey UK Helinut
Gary, Try paying UK prices!!!!!!
Try My Prices CP15% Nitro A Gallon = $38 , And CP 30% Nitro A Gallon = $48. And Yes Thats US Dollars. Thats The Reason Im Leaning Towards Tuned Pipes.

OS 91 C-spec with Hatori 700 at 42cm on 15% nitro = 3.34HP at 13,440rpm.

OS 91 C-spec With MP2 on 30% Nitro = 3.17HP At About 13,300-13,400rpm.

Now To Show The HP Of The H 700 42CM on 30% Nitro:
3.5hp At 13,440rpm

Higher Nitro Doesnt Always Mean More HP, Pipe Selection And Gearing Is What We Need To Look At!

Ok now that you ppl are complaining about fuel costs here comes the Portuguese official quote:

20% Nitro, 15% high viscosity oil (Robbe Rotkan S20) = 50$ 5L
10% Nitro 15 high viscosity oil (Tornado 10% Helimix = 38$ 5L

Homemade fuel:

20% Nitromethane (99,99% purity)
20% Kl-198 Oil
60% Methanol (99,99% purity)

Thats $28 for 5L

Which one do you think I use?

In SA we are paying the equivalent of $30 for 5L of 15%Nitro fuel which has 20% Klotz 200 in. Mixing it myself would cost $35 if I buy the Klotz & Nitro at the LHS (don't where else to buy it!). This feels really expensive but I see now that it is not too bad!
I am investigating importing KL198 if I can't source it locally and then buy the Nitro by the 20 litres and see if I can get it below $30 for 5L.

You can get Kl-198 from spain at 6.30/€ + postage per litre no international restrictions.

About the methanol and nitromethane... try to find Chemical plants and corporations. Most of them carry that stuff. Just be sure thats its with at least 99,95% purity. There is alot of methanol out there with just 90 or 95%... may run but not that well. if you can find cheap 99.95% go for it. It mostly doesn't pay off to pay alot more for 99,99%

Cheers

We have brilliant methonal out here made by Sasol. It is one of the products produced from coal so it is of a very high grade and about $0.6 per litre depending on how much is bought. I can buy 20 litre cans not far from where I work. The Nitro will take a bit more investigating. Your KL198 sounds great. Can you give me the URL of where I can order it please.Rob.

Uhh... that would be harder... you need to send a Fax to the national Spanish Importer and they will send you a quote for it. I'll search for their contact tonight.
