Balance,
The front end of the 4 in 1 Rx is broad enough to cover the entire 72mhz band. From the factory is appears to be center tuned. I used a crystal swapper and ran one from one end of the band to the other with no problem. I suspect your crystal is either of the wrong type or defective.

Not the wrong type, but possibly defective. Doesn't matter. I am going to buy a synth module for my 8UHFS so I can tune to any channel.

I've been playing around with it even more tonight. WOW what a difference. I set up some Expo and some Revo on it and the tail holds so steady now with slight throttle changes. It's very noticable. I set the revo to a switch so I can turn it on and off. Quite drastic. The expo really helps with the hovering as well while still giving good response.

I'd like to thank Gary for his posts. He mentions one very important item to do after setting all of this up and that is this:
The final setup touch that makes this all really work nice is to remove the main blades and unplug the tail motor. Now in Normal Mode spool up the Heli with the Tx in Edit Mode for Channel 3. Go to full throttle and the Red LED will be on solid. Now dial down the high end point on the throttle until the Red Led goes out and it turns Green. Go back up on the Throttle End Point about 5% from this point. Now the Red Led should come on just as you reach full collective/throttle. In the Idle Ups it will come at each end of the collective.
After that I just set it up exactly like he said to:

Aileron -80%
Elevator +80%
Pitch +25

Normal Throttle Curve: 0,25,50,75,100
Idle Ups Throttle Curve: 100,75,50,75,100

Normal Pitch Curve: 40,40,50,75,100

I've not messed with the idle ups yet. I was only hovering down in the basement. It was very nice and smooth. I also setup the following:

D/r,EXP
1-AIL down
D/R: 140
EXP: -5

1-AIL up
D/R: 140
EXP: -0

2-ELE down
D/R: 140
EXP: -5

2-ELE up
D/R: 140
EXP: -0

4-RUD down
D/R: 100
EXP: -5

4-RUD up
D/R: 100
EXP: -0

I kept the revo at the default setting at first and then increased them both by 5% which helped even more.

great fun.

Technically it is a against the law to change TX crystals so no you won't change the crystal in your 7CHP. As long as you put the Futaba Short crystal in the 4-in-1 that is on the same channel as your transmitter you will be good to go.

It looks like tower just does not have it in stock. They do make it on channel 32. Check this page. I know very little about the company but it does apear that they have it in stock.

It is against the law to change TX crystals? So, if I pull the module out of my 9303 and switch crystals, I'm breaking the law? How does syth modules work?

I'm still new to all this, so any info would be appreciated. Just last week I was talking to a club member and was telling him I'm building a hovercraft for use with my heli radio, and he said "uh, you can't do that." I guess the air/ground bands are different.

Any other major FCC rules I should know about?

The module things like in the 9C are legal. It's actually changing the crystals in transmitters like the 7C that actually use crystals that is against FCC regulations. It does not mean that people don't do it though. So in your case you can purcahse a different channel module for your 9C because that is a different technology than crystals. The regulations apply only to physical channel crystals and not to these new modules.

That's a JR radio isn't it. If that's a JR radio then I don't think this will work for you unless you change the receiver out. Just changing the receiver crystals only works for the hitec and futaba radios.

If anyone is still looking for crytals, I got mine from http://www.lightflightrc.com about 2 months ago and they're only $6.95 shipping included. Look for the Berg 5 and Berg 6 crystals. This guy is trying to get rid of all his Xtals so he may not have certain channels.

Yeah, I have a fully seperate radio setup. So I have a JR receiver. Anyway, I'm still not clear. I can change the crystals out of my module, and still be legal, right?

FYI guys: The 9C modules have regular crystals in them. Just peel the black sticker and you'll see. You can change the "crystal" in the modules. Same thing.

take care.

Tower Hobbies help line advised me that the correct 'short' single conversion Futaba crystals are ordered by catalog number FUTL 63** (** channel number). This is the case through the lows and highs. If you choose to replace the TX crystal (and why not ), they come as a set and catalog number FUTL 20** will get the TX crystal but a dual conversion RX crystal for the junk drawer.

Thanks guys, for all the good info! This is great - misery loves company!?

The TX is similar to the RX in that you CAN exchange the crystal within the band of freguency operation and also grouping within the high or low channels. The crystal from the Blade CP or CX transmitter will work in the Futaba 7C without a problem at all. These laws are sometimes generated as a means of obsolesence for a perfectly good system. Provide a fear factor, and you can be certain of success...if it works it works and also; as a precaution, do the same range check that the manufacturer suggests for their 'factory ready' system.
