Hobby Town is one.......nuff said

Hobby Warehouse is ok so far, but haven't hung around or anything yet.

Use Chris at RCHeliWorks as my local; someone who is willing to talk to a novice and help to make the right decisions for good prices will always win out for me. Most people just want to take your money and get pissy when you don't hand it over quickly enough.

LHS'S in general.......
SUCK. PERIOD.

Its no wonder mail order companies have all but completely taken over the R/C purchase industry.

It could be the crappy service. The piss poor lack of competitive prices. Or maybe the total lack of knowledgeable, friendly staff. Whats to "love" about ANY of the above items?

I am personally VERY happy each time I see one go under!

Wheels-Wings-N-Hobbies is one of three local hobby shops here, and it is an awesome hobby shop. Jeff (the owner) is a heli flier himself, just a super-nice guy, and, he sells most heli stuff just a shade above his cost. I buy from him almost exclusively.

lol, damn. harsh but well said.

internet IS the way to go, especially with the big well known shops such as ricks and heliproz, between those two you really should be able to find anything and everything.

sure it takes a little more time receiving via usps/fedex/ups etc than going in to your LHS and on the spot getting what you want, but i can overlook that when an internet store is a 1 stop shop. its hard to get great customer service, 99% of the parts in stock and available and decent prices, with a knowledable staff in the area you want, all in one place.

most LHS's are like a 7/11, convenient. there are the exceptional few like the lucky sob's that live near a ricks or hp. as i mentioned in my previous post, i have a pretty decent helicopter specialized place near me, Zoom's unforunately its not always worth the 45min one way trip to get there. MTA is another excellent shop thats sorta near me too, 1hr drive one way too which sucks.

instead i would rather hop on a site, find what i need and get it AT MY DOORSTEP a couple days later.

I agree with trackmagic

Too many people everywhere want to take your money cus they (think) they are the only game in town. They dont think you can find a better price or care if you buy from them cus they have money up their a$$es from raping their "dumb" loyal customers, and they think you are coming back anyway.

You're a moron. 99% of the mail order shops you buy from are local shops to someone. Just because YOU don't have a local shop that's good doesn't mean there aren't some. A good local shop is invaluable. I didn't used to have one, so I mail ordered everything, fuel from Tower, parts from 'proz and Ricks'. Now I have a good one, I can walk in and get just about anything, fuel is a lot cheaper, and parts etc cost the same. I fly much more, and have made more progress than before.

I will give that for helis, an LHS isn't as important as for planes, due to the modular nature of a heli. However, when you need to repair a plane, or modify it, nothing beats going to the LHS and being able to browse the selections of woods and covering. Not to mention all the little stuff that's constantly necessary like fuel line, clevises, and everything else. What if it's Friday night, you are getting your helis ready to fly for the weekend, and notice that you need to replace the clunk line, and you don't have any extra? Have fun mail ordering that line and missing the weekend because you love it when the LHS goes out of business.

Our local hobby shop is nice, but expensive. They have a ton of people working there, so you can always find help, but their prices make me shop online. If I need just one part, I will go get it there because it is local, but I usually shop online. They have a pretty good heli selection because the owner flies them.

Crappy Service.. Well. that depends on the HS.

Piss Poor lack of competitive prices.... Yeah.. Sometimes. My LHS I can go in and bargon for anything. If I need anything ordered, they can usually beat Heliproz price for JR stuff and Futaba.

Lack of knowledge. You've got guys at these stores that do many stuff, and maybe not heli. Dont expect to walk into an airplane store and get heli advice...

My LHS is friendly..

It all depends where you are at man..

I think that My LHS is Spritefiend's second farthest away. They carry all the trex bits, but for glow, unless you have a raptor you have to order. As to high prices, I've noticed with local hobby stores in general, don't dork around with the pe-ons, be on your toes about the going rate for stuff, and talk to the owner, I usually get them to beat online prices that way.

Zoom's is great and the owner is a great guy. If your really in a jam around here, the last resort is always e-hobbies(helihobby's storefront) The service sucks, the people are kinda rude, but they have LOTS of stuff in store, and they are open 7 days a week, and late on weekdays.

I sometimes go to one in Sacramento called R/C Country. I think the guy in the planes dept might be Bi Polar or something. Sometimes I go in there and hes decent to talk to. Other times he doesnt have time for ya (theres no one in the store), hes busy demo-ing . I purchased a heli off of here and went there to have it checked out because I know crap about heli's yet. You'd thought I had something growing on my face. They were all like, you didnt buy it from us! If this makes sense I dont know what. Someone earlier said it best "theyd rather make a dollar today than have you comeback and spend your wad later" I feel almost intimidated when I go in there. Ill ask a question and usually you get "well we dont carry that, but if we did youd be a fool for using it" - referencing a fuel filter..haha I HATE my local hobby shop!!!when low and inverted down is up /// up is expensive

Honestly I throw business to the local shops when I can. I've had good luck with both of the Rochester shops on and off. Dan's Crafts and things is currently in favor, although Performance Hobbies carries actual heli stuff. Dan's has sold me the last two radios (multoplex evo 12 and a JR 9303) at almost mailorder prices. The other guy is where I go when I need a part for my TTR 50 in a hurry (and where I bought the core heli). I like the fact that I call Dan's and they say "hey Rusty hows the XXY going". I don't like the fact that I go into Performance after spending $1500 over the previous month, and they give me a hard time over a box for 4 gallons out of 8, of fuel I had preordered, that they were failing to deliver in a timely fashon, or a shogun that i had miswired, and asked them to fix... that then blew an ESC... that they then blamed the wiring issues on me (hey didn't I ask / pay you to fix it as I knew I did it in my sleep). I think that Dan's could go far carrying a couple of more things / supporting them better (and being a bit less corperate), and Performance could work on the customer service organizational end of things a bit. Either would be a fine shop to do business with overall. (knowing that I'm a picky SOB)

I Like them and I don't. There are 2 or maybe 3 if you count Hobby People. When starting out there IS one shop where they won't touch your stuff if it wasn't purchased there you're almost treated like a disease there. After buying things there they were as nice as can be, and after awhile that's how I saw them, but I wish it didn't take having to buy things first. Another shop, I've had some bad purchases and led to think I was getting good advice as to a particular model and needed accessories. They don't even support the model well so I'm thinking about dumping that purchase just to have one less headache. Needless to say, I've spent a lot for that lesson. The help in that one shop is great though, the guy is totally into helis, and has good knowledge, so I go there for that and small purchases. Outside of that I'll go to the online stores.
The 3rd store, well that is a backup incase the other 2 don't have the parts & I'm fed up with the lack of quality service. After talking to some buddies you can conclude that busines is business. So, if they want the business they'll need to improve on their end.
I'm new, where is the reset button on this radio?

I DO!
I don't have a truly "local" hobby shop. There is one that about 15 minutes from my house, but noone there knows anything about what they're selling. They have a train guy and an RC car guy. But there are two that are within a 45 minute - 1 hour drive. RC hobbies and more in Winsted CT, and Barn Speed in Lee MA,.

Both shops are really into Heli's and both have a lot of stuff. RC hobbies and more has EVERY part for Hirobos and Raptors and many for JR, Tiger, Century. If they're out of stock of something its only because someone else crashed before you that week! lol They have more in stock than any shop I've been to. The guys are helpful. They DO have some employees that aren't into the hobby.. but like someone already said... they won't BS you, they'll refer you to someone that knows. Barn speed leans more toward X-cell stuff, and he has TONS of airplane stuff. The owner is very knowledgable and is very hands on with helping customers.

I feel spoiled haveing these guys around. I don't mail order hardly anything. I try to spread the wealth too. Last crash I bought blades from Lee MA, and all my parts from Winsted CT. I want them to both be around.

OH! My fuel supplier is RC Madness in Enfield. Its actually an RC car shop. But he's 10 miles from my house and he carrys cool power 20% and 30% Heli fuel cheap!
