trex on 4000 mah my experiances
Ok i read a while ago about someone asking if they could fly a Trex on a 4000 mah lipo. well i just got my trex xl ccpm and thought i would give it a try.

first of all you cannot fit the canopy on as i had to put the lipo sideways on the mount. but i figured what the heck. the lipo i was using was a cheap 6c pack i bought for like 40 bucks.

anyway i strapped it on and fired it up, actually it flew just fine, i didnt do any inverted or loops or anythign but it hovered and flew forward flight just fine.

now here is the fun part, i thought id see how long it could fly around, just doing slow circuts in my back yard. anyway after 19 min i was getting pretty bored so i started doing fast piros around and around, after about 10 of them i saw a peice of plastic fly off and the heli lost all tail control and went into the dirt!! turns out one of the screws holding the tail blade came off and i threw a tail blade!!

damage was minimal, being blade grips, tail boom and tail case plus the landing gear but i repaired that.

anyway for those wanting extreme flight time go with the 4000 mah and cut your canopy to fit. Im not sure how long it would have gone but at 19 min i still hadnt noticed any loss of power. im flying a mega 3 turn, cc35 and hs56 servos.

it also flew very stable with the added weight and still had plenty of power..

if im bored again ill see how long it will fly, 20 min straight not doin any 3d gets boring!!!

I strapped a 4000 pack underneath which allows you to still fit the canopy.
But it was atleast twice the weight so I ditched the idea

i deffintly wouldnt be doing any 3d or anything but for someone wanting to practice hovering or FF its the only way to go. Plus the fact that you can buy the 6c 4000 mah for around 40 dollars which for the money gives you the most practice ect.

i dont know exactly what it weighs but it flew just fine forward flight and hovering. i doubt it would hover inverted or anything but it actually flew better with the extra weight because it was much more stable.

If u just hover around weight doesn't matter...some local pilot in my area mount a casino digital camera on 3s trex.....but 4a lipo only mounting is problem,,,would not fit into canopy even it do,,,u still got trouble cg....mount it under the trex between lg could be easy way to play with

I think weight is the deciding factor. It’s a matter of plain physics, the heavier the heli, the more lift the system has to generate. That means your motor has to work harder, draining the batt. faster.
