Hi the wren/predator fly’s delightful on 800mm blades its not dissimilar to using the 720mm rotortec blades in climb rate but with the bonus of a better decent rate it almost floats down I had too minus the tail rotor pitch by about 1.5 degree’s for the model to fly straight but that’s all. The modification was well worth the time and effort, it’s a pity MAH 810’s are so expensive because I would really like to try some but not at 198 quid!! The 800mm blades I am using are from Heli leisure so thanks Neil they are a very good blade, also twisting and root to tip they are very stiff I like them, I also did a couple of auto’s in throttle hold I did some circuits but didn’t last long because I was getting cold I will invert the model next time out if I can keep my fingers warm the model looks the part with a 25mm boom, so all in all the predator is doing great it does really fly well. The WREN MW 54 has had thirty flights under its belt now and has run beautifully from start up to finish!! So a big thank you goes to WREN TURBINES!! for a superb engine 2nd stage, exhaust, gearbox and conversion kit the predator has proved its self a great flying turbine machine although I have made quite a lot of modifications to suit my own flying style my only disappointment is that CENTURY never answered any of my e-mails but don’t let that put you off any parts that where faulty in my kit where replaced foc by the model shop which in my case was HELI LEISURE so I wish all you turbine flyer’s out there all the success in the world and the very best of luck. Also if you look on wren/predator/topics lots of interesting info there for predator flyers cheer’s Hayabusa

HELI LEISURE BITS
Hi Steve

You say you got your bits from HELI LEISURE is there link that i can get all these top bits from.

Was it using all new parts or just extending the old boom?

Looking Fwd to the new post you put out on how it flys with the HELI LEISURE bits on.

Ian did your new blades turn up for your conversion to 800mm?

Cheers Rob

link to parts!!
Hi rspblake the link you need to go on is… http://www.Hoverworld.com the 800mm blades I am using are excellent the model fly’s beautiful on them, Dean Jackson is wringing these blades out I will be treating my millennium to a pair shortly. The boom is totally new and is of course 25mm you need the stiffness when you are going longer (if you excuse the expression) and I didn’t get that from the original equipment (or using Viagra) I am using a predator modified tail gearbox which is working fine and reliably since the modification I am trying to keep things as standard as possible but you have the option of using other manufactures tail gearbox’s with this system if you prefer.
I have been using some parts from heli leisure for some time now and can only say these components are quality products. The wren 54 engine/2nd stage/exhaust and gearbox are superb I keep saying this because it’s been faultless and would recommended it to anybody who wants a turbine built or in kit form, I am doing a write up for a club on the wren/predator I am not promoting any manufacture here just my experiences on using there products. Predator 2..!!!
Hi chaps its great to see you all having great success with your turbine models its amazing when I first started on this forum with my wren/predator it seamed like I was on my own but now there seams quite a group of you that can’t be bad for the turbine business or the century predator I am thoroughly enjoying my model very much I suppose I will call my model the Predator 2!! with its double elevator metal arm conversion, 4ccpm and 25mm boom conversion and it really is the business on 800mm blades and the thrust bearings do work great on the main shaft especially if you are doing some inverted flying I feel very confidant with the model now its upgraded the most important mod was initially the tail box because it could fail when you least expect it, that’s not best with an expensive model I also modified a vario benzin in a similar way with a 25mm boom and a 5hp petrol motor that can really shift and its not bad at 3d then they brought out an acrobatic version about 2 years later so I was enjoying mine well before the manufactures probably where. cheer’s Hayabusa

WREN MW54 MELODIOUS!!!
Hi rspblake that’s an interesting thought if I could loose some weight of my mother ship now she has muscles to cope with all that power and wings of a pterodactyl and the second stage is gripped like an alligator being squeezed at the nuts!! And a tail fixed like a stegosaurus maybe a good name would be, Pterosaurs (Winged lizard) no! Ok HAYAWRENDATOR HL!! How’s that for a good name. When I get my hands on the Wren Nuclear two stage turbine system it will be immediately named FISSION with a critical mass governor just to keep matters in proportion. May we all prosper!! Hayabusa

Hi Steve... You Are Mad!....
Hi Steve

I always thought that you were mad... especially the way you hammer the HL parts. If they have been thro' You they will stand anything.

Good job that you are not using 3010 servos and all those other bits that would hardly keep a 60Predator flying... never mind a turbine.

Be careful with the dino's though... you know what happened to them.

Regards
Neil

Hi All.

Neil, Long time no speak too, starting to look good!

Steve been looking at that site and the gallery, looks like things are starting to happen!

There is also the upgrades for the predator to be found there as well, just missing the 800mm upgrade and things would be complete.

http://www.rcturbinehelicopters.com/gallery.html

So just a sweetener to keep us going

Think the dino idea rocks steve. LOL

Cheers Rob

Richie

Think it was a general!

It don't matter what Steve fly’s with sure `he ware it out.

Any way you have S3050 futaba servos, I am sure you said the other day.

Just a general question!

When you change to 800mm boom/blades do you reduce head speed, pitch angle, gear ratio from the 720 model? If so what too!

yup, i changed them....wanted some with a metal output gear. Wish i could throw helis about like you guys do, even if i had the skill i am not sure i have the balls!! Altho Flying circuits has suddenly become a whole lot more fun when you add a turbine with its sound and smell into the equation!! Now let me see, what do i need most, pay the mortgage this month or longer boom/blades for my heli!!!!

Hey Rob (rspblake),

Haven't got 810mm blades as yet mate, do have longer boom & tail drive in my possession but no blades. I have been busy with another turbine project which is taking up my free time, along with YS problems on my F3C machines.

Chatting to Bell Bloke the NHP Razors appear to be a good price and for 3D will no doubt be great due to their stiffness, these are the ones I may go for to start with but not sure.

Greg Alderman is very kindly sending me a Regulator / LiPo setup to fit to my machine so I shall make all the changes at once.

Definetly this is the way to go, I remember having numerous conversations with Steve and more recently Ross and others about using longer blades before they were even tried, realising the lighter disk loading will make a lot of difference.
Bob Johnstons been using 810mm's on his Cuatro for some time, a major factor in my mind being made up.

Also, I feel the C/G of the model will be made a little better to with a longer boom, hopefully bringing it closer to the main shaft counter-acting the turbines weight more.
Whenever I fly the model I do notice the weight on the nose and with the shorter blades I am sure it's more apparent.

Unfortunatly due to other commitments I have just been left behind in doing it
But I shall catch up soon.

Yep I have to say that the 800cm NHP Razors do make a real difference, vertical climb is astonishing even at 'only' 120,000rpm on the Wren.
Control inputs are more immediate and sharper with the added bonus of greater stability. Looking forward to getting my 850s' but the NHP Razors are a good stopgap for me at the moment + they only cost £60!
All the best, Bell Bloke.
