well, im grounded waiting on parts. so, i thought i'd start a custom tool thread.

with all the tinkering i've been doing lately with the 3dpro beltdrive mod, i've had to come up with some of my own tools, simply because they dont exist for the micros. if anyone else has come up with some inventions that help them out, feel free to add to the post.

i'll start with my micro flybar lock system. this helped a lot both in helping confirm my geometry is still right, and with setting pitch curves on a computer radio.

the parts list:

sacrificial micro test lead
2- 1/2" lengths of shrink tubing
1 1-5/8" length of .08" CF rod
a line level (available from home depot or harbor freight for <$2)

click for large

tools required:

needle nose pliers
heat gun/lighter
soldering iron/lighter

step 1:

click for large

carefully pry the tangs from the aligator clip holding the wire. don't damage the tangs, they will be important later.

use a lighter or soldering iron to desolder the wire from the clip.

repeat these steps for the other aligator clip.

step 2:

click for large

use the needle nose pliers to reform the tangs of both clips to accept the .08" CF rod smoothly.

step 3:

click for large

slip the 2 1/2" lengths of shrink tubing over each end of the 1 5/8" length of .08" CF rod. use a lighter or heatgun to shrink the tubing down.

step 4:

click for large

tightly crimp one of the clips to one end of the CF rod. loosely crimp the other clip to the other end of the rod. one end should slide freely so that the length can be adjusted.

usage:

click for large

i clip one end of the 'lock' to the flybar, and the other end to the vertical portion of the front tray. with the clip in place, use the line level on the paddle and adjust the length of the 'lock' until it is level.

click for large

with the lock in place you can let go of the pitch gauge to adjust the radio rather than trying to juggle everything

next time: micro ball link remover

if it ain't broke, break it.

50 cent Micro Heli Pitch Gauge Blade Adapters
Wow! That for posting your idea.

The extensive how-to was posted on rotorworks.net, but the text and links to detailed pics were lost when the owner of the site moved to a new server.

I made these micro gauge adapters when there were not any gauges out there for a decent price. The idea was modified from a guy on rcgroups. But basically:

1. I lined the pitch blade grip of with tape: bottom, sides, etc in order to make a mold for what was going to be the new the micro adapters.

2. I mixed up some 5min epoxy, poured it into the taped-off linings of the pitch gauge in order to make the filling that was to become the new micro blade adapters.

Just a little bit of "Ghetto Power" out of some old RC Truck Packs:

Predator, Raptor 30, TRex CCPM 450TH, 3D Pro 400F
