I have a YS-80 and am missing the copper head gasket. Is that gasket really necessary? Could I just use a very small amount of gasket maker silicon?

Thanks,
Gullie

My understanding is that they are shims to set head clearance and not gaskets at all. If you are running no shims your YS is set up for low nitro.

I'm using 15% in all my helis due to my lack of ability. Therefore I've pulled the head shim out of my YS91. It runs pretty good without it. It will bog a bit turning 700mm blades with high collective and elevator inputs. Other than that it's running pretty good on the 15% without the shim.

I wondered if the shim removed from my OS Hyper 50 would run better with better power on 15% nitro.

I also have two EVO50's with Hypers and I pulled the shim out of those as well. I think it's helped. But then again, what do I know?
