just picked up a Xcell Gasser
I just bought a slightly used, less than 10 flights, Xcell gasser kit #1005-102 and with serial # 502189. It's got the Zenoah 230PUH engine and what looks like a miniature wrap around muffler that exits at the rear of the heli. Looks like what "xcellgassman101" uses on his heli. I've been doing some research here on runryder and trying to find what upgrades I might need. I looked on the heli and notice I already have the frt pinion mod. The fan that I have is MA0579-5 which is CNC aluminum. And the fan shroud is MA105-52N which is high temp epoxy.

upgrades I may need?
-push pull collective
-push pull elevator

What about doing a conversion to the SE graphite radio tray. What parts will I need. Will the conversion do anything to improve the heli, or is it just for the "bling factor." Any other upgrade that I missed? OH, yeah, it's going to be a AP heli.

Xcell gasser
Hi Kona,

What I did so far on mine was to replace the stock fuel tank, to place a bigger one. I placed a DuPro 20oz, and it gives me around 45min of flight time.

Next upgrade foreseen is an Onboard generator.

What's the average flight time using the stock 10oz fuel tank? What is the purpose behind adding a generator to the heli?

Kona: The muf you speak of is the zimmer rear air can, very nice, and quite and the lay out also adds some integrity to the frame. Besides the pinion bearing mode you must make sure your tail box has the integral plastic mount tieing it in to the fin mount. Identified by a small sheetmetal screw pinning it to the boom. The elevator push pull balances the load across the servo gear train. Collective does the same. Flight time on a stock tank about 12 miniutes. You can get a 12 or 14 oz DuBro only on the stock 1005 frame without diddling the canopie.
I'm presently up grading another 1005 with a SE front end. Adds much ridgity, larger fuel tank and more lay out room. Not a major concern when your getting started. The generator you speek of is the jewel of Raja. Unlimited flight time - depending on your transmitter batteries and gas tank.Fuel camper fuel stove gas, Ozark or Coleman with a synthitic oil. Check my gallery for my stock 1005

Is the push pull collective and elevator a "necessary" upgrade? I am not going to be doing any 3d with this heli. Just flying around with the weight of a camera mount.

I have a question about the way the fuel plumbing on a gasser. I have only flown glow engines so this is new to me. It has 2 fuel lines going to the carb. And a vent or over flow coming out of the tank. Do need to plug it when I fly. Won't the fuel come out if I am hovering inverted.

the only suggestion, i would recommend is a metal rotor hub. i had an originial plastic fiber hub and after a while it wears, and develops some slop. this is my opinion.

I guess push pull could be considered somewhat of a redundant system if one link were to pop off in flight? Just my 2 cents.Highly addicted to carbon fiber.....

Push pull is not a needed
Tom??????
The push pull will help equalize the pressure on the spline gear of the servo... If you use a ball link measureing tool, then it is a great help..
.5 is a half round off,,,
Just go fly one around, pull it thru the air, I'm not talking about hard 3D, I mean just go buzz the air,, without one, and then with it on,, there is a great differance between the two. I know first hand, I did that experiment, so I know the out come,, Push Pull on the elev, is a must in my books,,

As far as the push pull on the collective,, If you go with the SE conversion, you don't need to buy this upgrade,, it comes with it,,
Then only thing you will need is 4 -10mm spacers to use at the botton of the frames.. That's it,,

I am a firm believer in the SE servo tray,, I did the same experiment with the stock tray. Then change out the servo tray's, less the two hours, it was flying again,,, Now don't get me wrong,, The Xcell 1005 gas heli, will fly just fine, with the stock servo tray,, but if you want crisp response from your heli,, Then the SE servo tray is well worth the money,,

If you are going to use this heli for AP, then by all means get a metal head, and blade grips.. And then there's the thing about gearing,, MA redsigned the lower frames to allow for the new HD clutch stack, which you can change the gear ratio that you will need for AP work,,,Mainly it consites of
Extened boom, torque tube, and push rod,,
New lower frames
New style HD clutch stack with 10 or 11 tooth pinion. I currantly running the 11 tooth with 90 tooth main gear, 8.45:1 Head speed around 1600, running MAH 810 blades.. Not for sure if I like the MAH blades.. Hard to get really smooth with them, I think I'm going to try a set of NHP 800 to see what they feel like,, Hope this helps.. XGM formally known as John Crotts

xcellgassman..what parts and part# do you need for the Se grahite frt end conversion. What about the parts list for the long boom conversion with all the things necessary for the gearing change? Xcell's sure need a lot of upgrades to fly good. Does the carbon predator fly good out of the box?

Well like I said, the Xcell will fly just fine the way it is,,,,You don't have to do these upgrades. As for the SE conversion,, just order a SE carbon servo tray.. As for the Rest,,, Well MA doesn't have part # for the gear change,, They did that just for me.. Call MA and ask for Chris.. and tell him what you are doing and mention my name,,John Crotts. They will know what you will need,,,, The only reason I did all this, is because I wanted a strickly AP heli,,, and wanted to swing the bigger blades with no trouble.. There are alot of guy's flying it just like it is out of the box. Hope this helps.. John Crotts..

Call Ron at Ricks.. I think that they have a SE front servo tray.. 1-800-321-9909 ext 11
