ESC: 25 or 35 Amps?
How much does the 3200 motor draw?

I am still doing my research as to what to buy. I hate these all in one packages that include the worst parts that you have to upgrade later anyway.....

So, Are there any major differences I should consider? I know the G version is the governor model which I want. Anything else?

Personally I don’t thank that a 25A ESC is ever a good idea for the T-Rex. As you get better you are going to want more power and a 25A ESC is not going to cut it. Just get the 35A ESC and be done with it.

Thats what I thought as well.

What about 4s packs? Is it worth it getting one that can handle the high voltage?

Hi gkoutsis,

I concur with Ben-T-Spindle. The 25A is marginal, I would use a 35A to be comfortable and you won't have to worry about motor upgrades. The higher end motors will be current hogs.

Cheers,
Leslie

What ESC were you considering?

Castle Creations Phoenix 35 can handle up to 5s voltage. As I recall reading that a Align 35a ESC will handle 4s voltage. You will need a separate BEC for a 4s setup unless you get the very expensive Jazz 40A ESC.

When I first got my 450XL I was considering going to a 4s setup but it flies so well on a 3s setup that I will just stay with that. The new TP2100 ProLite battery really makes a big difference when it comes to 3s LiPo performance.

Hi BTS,

what motor are you using for your setup? what are your flight times?

35A is my bet too, I had problems with the 25A CC speed controller, and not one with the align 35A, and yes it can be used with a 4s setup.... I know apples to oranges with CC vs. Align, but the basic setup is still the same....But Honey, I can't live with just stock.....

Get a Kontronik Jazz 40-6-18 (40A continuous - 50A peak). Makes ALL the rest look absolutely sick, and you'll never need to upgrade it as it will handle HV setups as well with its switching BEC.

They really are worth the extra money.

p.s. Just got my new Jazz controller setup in the RotorWorkz framed Rexy with the 450TH on 13T in governor mode and a quick spool up in the lounge last night looked promising. Too windy and wet for any test flights yet though.

we disassembled an align 35 amp
it is very closed to the 25 amp design
except 2 more transistors which are not in contact with the radiator !
these 2 transistor are on the opposit side of the bec regulators
these components consequently are eated by the 2 transistors
failure of the bec happens after few minutes

Kontronik Jazz 40-6-18...How is the programming done? By Tx stick or is there some kind of pc interface available?

Does the governor mode work well? I've been reading that people have problems with it.

Kontronik is programmed by stick - extremely simple. Governor mode works great on my Mega 16/15/3 and looks promising on the 450TH.

There's a vapourware software programming program/cable kit that's mentioned in the manual and may actually be available one day.

Of all the 25 amps ESC I've ran before on T-Rex, none had shutdown due to overamp. Most T-Rex hovers at 6-8 amps with 20 amps burst anyway. Notice I say most because some outrunner motors will suck more.

The original reason for going to 35 amp CC ESC was for the beefier BEC circuitry. Now with the improved BEC on their new P25, that's no longer a reason.
