New Falcon looks...
like a Hawk Pro with a Falcon decal on it. Hmmmm, is this just me or is the Falcon that close in appearence? It's does look nice though. Wish I was as inventive a canpoy designer as some of the rest of you folks on this site.

It IS a Falcon SE with some shiny stuff on the rotor head. It has an OS 50, standard, not the hyper, and I can't take credit for the canopy paint design...copied it from "dsmit258", like this one:

Hey,

The little yellow box above the muffler looks to be a Venom Temp. Sensor I think?

Model looks good, should go well to. I love my little Falcon V2 fitted with a Webra 50 & Nova Rossi pipe.

Jack,

There's nothing special. Just a Falcon SE with an OS .50, Futaba 401 gyro, JR 8101 servos, and a NiMH 2700 mah battery.

Jim,

I've been working with the gyro since the Austin fun fly. There was nothing wrong with the gyro. Believe it or not, it was the clutch. It was causing a major vibration. Lots of ballancing, testing, ballancing and no improvement. The clutch was ballanced but would shake the heli when the engine was running.

Finally figured out the shoes were not moving out under cyntrifical force at equal rates, and that was causing the vibration. Seems the clutch was not tempered equally on both sides. I heated the thing equally at the point were the shoes bend out on each side, and now the vibes are gone, everything is smooth, and the gyro works.

I've seen this problem in the past and fixed it by replacing the clutch...was too pig headed to do that this time.

Yes, call me Mr. Pig Headed....been working to find this problem for about three weeks.

Humm… So it wasn’t the servo arm length after all. I bet you wish it really was that easy. Finding out the clutch shoes weren’t coming out at the same rate is pretty good detective work. Congratulations on the find. And the high frequency vibration was causing the gyro problems.

Just an update on my Hawk, in my gallery I have pictures showing the short balls on the bottom of all the wheels and the little offset/differential throw set-up you were telling me about on the aileron servo too. I have two or three flights with the 575mm woodies too, more about that later.

Jim,

The control setup looks good, but I want to hear about the blades. This stuff about "more about that later", is not going to get it!

Jim,

No, it's one of the old mufflers. The performance is acceptable, but not breathtaking. I've gotten used to the Hyper in my Raven, but it is smooth as glass.

There is a couple of mods I do to the muffler that does help. Basically, I port match the muffler to the engine, and reduce the back pressure at the baffle and it seems to help quite a bit on the 50s.

Michael,

Thanks, and as far as the standard 50 is concerned, as you would expect, it's not a Hyper. This is a used engine that I had in the Raven and was replaced by the Hyper. It wasn't too noticable when I installed in in the Raven with breakin to go thru and such, but now haveing one standard and one Hyper, the difference is definately there. The standard will only pull about 9 degrees of pitch, which is about the limit of the Falcon anyway, but the Hyper in the Raven is pulling 11 or 12 degrees. It's hard to tell for shure because my pitch guage only goes to 10. Anyway, the Falcon is real smooth.

Jim,

Lets see, how would I discribe my flying??? How about a mix of FAI, Scale, and some limited 3D thrown in. Why do ask such a question?
