Starting SE conversion:

Print and instructions reference throttle servo on right side of carbon frame. Am I to assume that for a gasser, the frames are too be reversed with the throttle servo ending up on the left side??

I also noticed that the aluminum front vertical servo frame support is not drilled to accept the #0855-13 " U " servo tray brace. Can the front SE conversion be assembled 1st then use it to match drilll the necessary holes.

Checked my current late model 1005 and these two holes in the vertical
frame support for the U bracket do not exsist either. Am I looking at a poor drawing rendition or is drilling required.

Please with reccommendations .

What to do
Put the throttle servo from the other side of the frame (left side). Frames are identical so you can insert the servo from the left or from the right. Right side is for nitro, left side for the gasser.

As far as the A bracket in the center of the front radio tray, I don't use it. Just bolt the radio tray to the top with two long bolts through the round (3/4 inch or so) spacers, and then the 4 bolts through the frames down below. You will need 11mm spacers for the bolts on each side as the carbon radio tray is thinner than the gasser frame.

Lastly, you may need to elongate the holes in the top of the frames to line up with the bolts in the top of the frame. If you don't you may find that the round spacers (3/4 inch ones) are angled up towards the center frame that they are resting against.

This should get you on your way!

You will have to drill the two holes in the vertical front support, for the bracket in the middle... But that is all the drilling I had to do.. You will need four 10mm thick spacers for the bottom of the servo tray where it attaches to the main frame,,

You don't have to reverse the servo frames,, there is a opening on both sides,, Just mount your throttle servo on the left side,, thats it..

Yes build the servo tray first, then mount the top mark you holes in the vertical plate, remove the servo tray, and drill the holes.. thats it..

Hope this helps.. XGM

Thinks are going GREAT! My spacers wern't drilled deep enough but pairs of .003 washers solved that. Carlos that bird is very well dressed! Very clean!Thanx for the pic's. Trying to figuire what's wrapped behind the left rear paw, must be the leash. Will photo essay from time to time on the build from the Eagles Nest.

Lifted the hood on my late model and discovered the main gear has a slight crest one one tooth every 8 teeth or so from shaft end play. Chased the collars and pinion block setting clearences drove me willy until I hung it from the head on the hoist to pre-load the main gear / pinion block then set the collars. Viloa, worked excellent.

New build has a different shaft and CNC head with a bit of geometry quizes, will chase it down the drive line and I'm sure you all will be giving me a bit direction when I get a bit down the line and make the 90 heading up-wards. THANX YA ALL

I have been working on my SE conversion Gasser. I also ran into the same problem with the 3 spacers no being drilled deep enough. Also ran into a problem with the screw that holds the 2 balls on the "ball crank" (106-29), being to short. The socket bolt is supposed to be M2x12, instead it was M2x10. Too short. I ended up using one of the srews out of the old plastic tray set up. The screw that screws into the roll servo arm. The carbon fiber front tray sure does look nice...

My conversion went much like Raja's except I "engineered" mine from top to bottom so I ended up slotting the holes in the lower frame rails downward about 3mm or so. I also made the required spacers from alum. stock and just center drilled them and used through bolts and lock nuts. I really like the way this one flys. It has turned out to be one of my favorite helis. I am building a Spectra from several "deals"here on RR. I should have it finished this week. I have never seen one fly nor do I know anyone that owns one since I'm out in the middle of the high desert, so it will be interesting for me to see and feel the difference between the two designs that are a decade apart.
I did throw a Hanson modified 26 in it last week. I think this is too much motor for it, as I was having trouble keeping the engine from slipping sideways slightly, causing a clutch misalignment which tried to shake it apart before I could get it back on the ground. The front of one skid actually broke off before I could land. I think the stock gearing in too high for this engine, not letting it reach it's optimum rpm (just a guess). Also maybe the rear exhaust designed for the 23 is too restrictive? Anyway the 23 is going back in before the next flight. Not as much power but incredibly smooooth. Good luck with your project.

Jim you are correct on both accounts.. The gearing is wrong, and the wrap around muffler is to restrictive.. Sounds like you have a great heli.. XGM
