Ultimate 3D Stratus in the build
Hello guys,

since i wanted to build the Ultimate 3D Stratus - i went ahead and started converting my Tempest FAI (with Extreme head) to the Stratus.

Here is the setup - Stratus with:
Extreme head (Metal bell mixers)
New flybar carrier
CF skids
Heavy duty rods
Metal bellcranks
Metal washout assembly
Metal Anti Rotation
Closed tail box with FAI slider and Metal grips
V paddles 90mm
SAB new 3D blades (710mm) and JK tails (105mm)
Quick UK header tank

Futaba 14MZ with new G3 14ch Rx
OS 91 Cspec PS \ Viperhead twin plug \ Hatori SB-17FH (carb will be replaced with OMI carb soon)
3 x Futaba 9451 servos on 6V
1 x Futaba 9450 throttle servo (6V) on a CSM Revlock
CSM SL720 \ 9251 on the tail (5.0V)
Duralite 4000Mah Rx pack

More pics on my gallery.

What do you guys think about this setup ? anything else that could possibly be improved to make this machine even better 3D capable ?

Actually, the specs on the 9451 are most impressive on 6V.

sweet Lior. did you pick those servos for cost or is there something else to that servo? 'wonder, because the 94758z appears to be faster in either 4.8v/6.0v and with nearly similiar tq. in 6v.

Is that the Fromeco reg? I hope you have the pressurized tank for when you switch to the OMI system. i don't think that current tank can take the pressure. how is the 720 gyro holding up to your beatings? I'm seriously considering getting one to try out. How did you set it up with the 14mz? is it the same as the 601? are you using the gryo menu?

Yes thats the reg, and Yes ill change tanks later. the 720 is working great, there are many posts about it - read some.
its extremely easy to setup using the MZ gyro menu, just basic like any other gyro, but it has CSM's "quick flick flick" setup which makes stuff like limits and reverse and such much easier.

Considering what you're going to be doing and the cost of the G3 receiver, you may want to put it in a Quick UK receiver box. It fits like a glove on the right side of the receiver mounting area with the antenna going straight out the bottom of the box and the servo wires coming in from the top. Make no mistake; that receiver uses an EIGHT layer board that is basically irrepairable in the event of significant damage. Protect it and your wallet well.

FWIW,

Vigor3DFX, after i tried some bew SABs i was hooked, and decided to go for them.

Giuseppe, only this machine is on 6V, and the servos dont have a lot of play at all.

Lior,

Are you using a heavy duty clutch? Can't really tell from the photos.

Given the way you fly, you're going to be losing a noticable amount of power through clutch slippage, even if it's gapped optimally. You'd be well advised to put the H/D clutch in there from the start and avoid the hassle of the R&R later on.

All ready to go:

i only need to set it up, just waiting for the new SAB blades.
also, i did manage to squeeze in the Quick UK reciever protection box and the HD clutch will be ordered soon as well.

looks awesome Lior.. looking at some of your pics, i can see how the stratus sheds some weight over the extreme/tempest but how crash-friendly would you say this frame of CF twigs is in comparison do you know? i know you've been around MA products for a while now so i'm just curious..

ps: that OMI / (-) weight ratio is gonna rock. have you flown setup like yours yet? hope you get some vid soon...
