I'm with BTS. No need to make the tail heavier with bling.

I finally managed to get a couple of the new (hinged) Align tail sliders.

I was putting it on the rexy tail for a test this afternoon and when I was trying to snap the link onto the tail grip ball, the black link snapped right off. It broke right in the middle, the straight stem portion was still attached to the hinge. It was pretty cold so perhaps the plastic was more brittle than normal. I grabbed the spare slider and replaced the broken link. Then I removed the balls from the grips and snapped them into the links and THEN screwed the balls back into the grips. That worked much better.

I may be the only one with this problem but be careful if you have to flex the link to get it onto the ball, especially if it's cold.

FWIW

I also added the steel hub on the tail and added some Carbon Fiber tail blades while I had it all apart. (my first three attempts with the stock aluminum hub and CF tail blades all ended with tail failures and crashes.) The 4th time was the charm, it all held together. The tail is very happy with the carbon tail blade/steel hub and the hinged slider. so far so good.

I just installed my new pitch slider and metal tail case last night. I agree it's a pretty tight fit and I worried about breaking it. If your parts are very cold and brittle I could see it snapping when you force it together. Once you do get it installed it's nice though. It does seem to operate a lot more freely. It's way too windy so I won't get to fly it today. I did hover in the living room last night and it worked great.

Hmm, it must be the cold weather then, I've read another thread here about the new tail blades (swept tip) that exploded in flight. I also have this part on the way and will make sure to put them together without stressing the parts.

BTW, do you think the stock tail rotor hub will accept this new pitch slider? Looks like the ball connectors can't spin around like the stock ones, now I'm worried.

Before I order one I want to make sure that they will fit the stock plastic 450XL tail – is that correct?

I put the new slider on a stock plastic XL (black) tail case, it seemed to work fine. The steel hub I used seems to be identical to the stock aluminum hub so I'm pretty sure it would work. And I did add the 'swept' carbon tail blades for a test as well. They don't show a CF weave pattern but they are light and very stiff so I think it is some type of carbon.

lakespinner2,
Did you use the steel tail hub from Micoheli ($5.99) in place of the align aluminum tail hub. I just ordered the steel hub and was going to install it in place of the Align aluminum one.

aircrew1, yes I used the mh steel hub. Of course I ordered the incorrect version the first time, they make a version for their own tail grips and a version for the align grips. Make sure you get the correct one.

FYI,

The new slider does NOT fit the stock XL tail rotor hub, tried fitting it last night, no cigar.

Oh well, gotta order the new TR hub afterall

Gorgy,

I thought you had laid your hands off your TREX and simply work the sticks on your G3? Hahahhaa.. The Bling just can't stop...

Good thing I was not able to get that coz it was out of stock. I also have the align tail blades holder V1, what I ordered was the MH steel hub for that and my MH tail blades holder V2.

You should check out MH's new tail bell crank awesomely nice bling!

What do you suggest, should I get an MA tach or an E-meter? In the future I want a Sceadu Evo 50 SDG. I tested and have checked out the emeter and it's such a nifty gadget.

unless i am totally wrong the HS1133 upgrade is nothing more than HS1078 and hHS1079 (stock xl pieces) packaged together. and in fact it doesn't look like that align is even going to offer HS1133 at all. it has been taken off there website. also tail slider HS1135 tail rotor control set will only work with HS1127 metal tail holder, as they have the ball links at 90 degree angles. i believe the stock XL tail ball links are at about 45 degreesdarryl garrison

The HS1033 is not the HS1078 and 1079, it is a plastic version of the HS1135 and ;HS1127 metal tail slider. Look on Wattsuprc.com in the 'Coming soon' section.

I was also waiting for the HS1133 but I think I'll hold off for a bit due to some problems being reported with the screws shearing off. My guess is that the part is being re-designed and that's why it was taken off. If I were you, I'd wait a bit if I could.

raptorguy, you are correct, the 1133 is a plastic version of 1135, i hope it does come out but it seems as if it has been pullrd from the align website. don't know if that means anything or not.darryl garrison
