How old is the Extreme? you may also need the newer HD clutch driver.

i believe you will need only the clutch and the bell. not the whole driver.

The Tempest bearing block is what you are refering to. I'm refering to the clutch driver. the part that goes through the bearing block and where the clutch shoes(HD or NON-hd) screws on to. If your extreme is an older one it may not have the the clutch driver with the two set screws on the side. the clutch driver may also not have the proper step for the bearing block to ride on. I had an older style driver that the step was to big since it was made for the small bearing block.

For part # 120-8, you also need 120-9. The complete set is part#120-95.

carcrasher is right - if you have the original clutch driver, you have to upgrade that also.

i thought you would only need to change the bearing block out , this is what i did for mine to fit in. if i am wrong i apolgize. after re reading your post i know under what driver you are refering to. i nerver herd of it being called a hd driver before. it was update to the older model driver. they had a problem with them locking up in flight. my frist extreme was any early model and it locked up in mid fligh and shut the engine down. i had one of the frist 50 kits that were run off. sorry for the thread.

sorry for the thread
No apologies necessary. I don't even see that MA has acknowledged that the original clutch driver might be a problem. I think they believe that by this point everyone has the new improved clutch driver. My first extreme had the original clutch driver - I bought it NIB in June 93. It was sitting on my dealers shelf for a while.

The way to tell the difference is that the one that will work with the conversion has two holes with set screws spaced 180 degrees apart on the outside of the driver - the original does not have any holes.

i believe the older drivers were thru bolted with a nut and bolt. the newer ones use four screws to hold the bearing block.

120-9 is specifically for use with 120-8. The transmission block has 2 bearings supporting the tail shaft.

I suppose you can buy only the 120-8 - I don't know what issues, if any,you will have with using the current tail shaft. I know that with the stock setup, they recommend you loctite the tail shaft into that front support bearing, but with the upgraded block and shaft it is optional.

With the complete trans block kit, the tail shaft is better supported. Its an $11 difference.

Also heres a pic of the most recent clutch driver:

I bought the 120-95 for my # 2 Extreme cause ive hed some crown gear problems and ive been told that it could help so i orderd it, but for my # 1 bird that i want to covnert has no crown gear problem( knock on wood) so i thougt to order only the 120-8.

about the clutch driver, how can i recognize if i have the one i need or an older one that should be upgraded for the Stratus?
My clutch unit looks like in the pic:

If the clutch driver you have indeed has the holes in it like shown in the picture, then you have the updated clutch driver and you are good to go.
The original didn't have any holes in it.
