I am thinking of running camper fuel when I get my Gasser, is there any difference in brands, does it matter, what should I look for.

Thanks

I prefer the Escort "Canadian Tire" House brand. The coleman fuel seems to have some small grey particles in it, the last gallon I mixed up had what looked like bigger flakes, but when I touched it, it was like a really fine paste. I'm not talking any big quantities and I still burn Coleman if I can't get the Escort brand. But I can also keep my Heli in fuel using Cdn Tire money so that is anouther reason for Escort Brand.

It doesn't stink

This might be minor to some people but i find the smel of unleaded offensive. I keep my heli in the house, and I don't want unleaded stink everywhere.

I do take the same precautions in terms of the fumes will be flamable, even if you can't smell them.

Camp fuel
And it makes better horse power. I don't fully understand why but camp fuel is only 65 Qctane so it burns faster. Like I said I don't understand it but it rocks my P Gasser

Octane, is a rating of compressability I think, higher octane will compress more before it self ignites, lower octane will ignite easier under compression, and yes your right, higher octane burns much slower than lower octane.

Another question, can you run straight kerosene in these things, is there anything different about Camp fuel, or is it excatly the same as kerosene. Reason asking cause Kerosene is cheaper, we used to sell the stuff at my work many years ago, we kept it in 55gal drums. Wish we still had it.

No, No, NO!!! Kerosene is not the same as camper fuel. You won't get through 1/2 a tank of kero/jetA before your Zenoah is ruined.

Our engines are a low compression engine. High octane levels are for our cars now that run high compressin motors etc.

Since running "camper fuel" (white fuel solvent) I have never looked back.

Ther are 2 types here in Aus, Shellite and Mobilite. Both made by the same company "Diggers Australia" Both the same product, no difference at all

Camper fuel is Naptha. The power is pretty much the same as with gasoline, possibly more in lower compression motors (g-23 and G-26 series), the larger gas motors (G-62, etc. don't like it as much as they have higher compression and running camper fuel can make them run hotter. In our heli motors you don't need to worry about creating more heat, it's about the same as gasoline.

Advantages:

-Less odor.
-Longer shelf life (nearly indefinite)
-Fuel tubing (Tygon) does not harden and get brittle.
-Tuning is practically the same as gasoline.
-The motor runs cleaner with nearly no deposits (unless it comes from the oil).
-Petroleum based and synthetic oil compatible.
-Cheaper than gasoline (for now) camper fuel= $3.19/gallon, gas=$3.96/gallon.

Dam, I just picked up a Gallon from the local Canadian Tire and it was $9 and change, that was a US Gallon, 3.78L. I wonder where I can get it cheaper, not likely by much though.

Thanks Guys

Will,

I also buy my stuff at Canadian Tire. It seemed to me that the Coleman brand was a little better. I think Phil uses the same stuff.

Cnd $9 is cheap. A gallon of 15% CP is $22 and CP 30% is over Cnd $35!

Also, a nitro engine sucks fuel three times faster than a gasser, so your gallon will last three times longer!

It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right.

Hey Jack, yes I know its allot cheaper then glow fuel, this is why I am getting a Gasser, however I was just suprised that the guys in the states pay less then $4 a gallon for Camp fuel.

Thanks

- no you won't, you will not get to even fire not unless you run it through a high pressure injector that can atomize it as its delivered to the combustion chamber

I can't get Naptha so I have gotten used to the smell of gas and quite like it now but then again I have some strange tastes

Paul.

Hey John/BIGRCR

Do you think the camper fuel gives you more power over reagular gas? I have been flying a Hanson 231 for a summer now , and have tried all sorts of things for the motor. I have watched all your videos at the other heli web and love them. It seems like no mater how much you throw your spectra aroung, it never bogs down. I know your running a toxic motor over my Hanson. I have not made the switch to camper, because hanson does not recommend it. I'm been trying his tuned pipe out right now. After I get it moded for the silicon coupler. I've had a couple small flights on it , but nothing to really see if it's going to bog down. I just want a little more power. I have 2 of the Hatori pipes and ss headers. They made ok power, nothing close to what yours does in the video's. I quess I'm just looking for a little reasurance from a expert on the matter. I have some of the old amsoil allready. Thought I might give some camper fuel a try this weekend.
