I put a Himax 2015-4100 on my Blade and it barely gets out of ground effect. I have the symmetrical blades on it, and am using 3-cell li-poly , 1320's and other known good packs. I have a max of 10degrees pitch. With the current 9-pin pinion the motor gets hot, and I notice that the CC-10 ESC is at full because the LED is on constant, the ESC is just warm, Li-poly packs are just warm. Is the 9-pin too small? Another problem I might (still) have is that I cut the connectors off the motor wires...BIG mistake. The individual strands seem to have a coating on them that is hard to remove (must be removed before soldering). Has anyone else done this? I wonder if I might still have a strand-or-two unsoldered? Any help would be appreciated.

My paperwork that came with my HIMAX 2015-4100 with gearbox, and my 2812-0859 outrunner distinctly mentioned to NOT SHORTEN THE WIRES,,,don't know if that messed you up or not, but I sure know i WON'T cut mine,,,Both of my motors run pretty good,,( however it is in 12 oz. foam flyers!) Good luck,,

Paperwork? I'm supposed to read the instructions actually I got it from a friend that didn't have the paperwork or the mating connectors. I suspect that this could be the problem as it starts up funny, but would still like to know what pinion people are running with this configuration.

I asked E-Flite about putting a 4100kv on my Blade CP. They said the 4100 would create too much headspeed and stall the blades. This is probably what you are seeing...

They recommend a 3600kv with a 8T pinion...

That being said... i know people have put a 4100 on the Blade and gotten it to work. You may want to try an 8T or smaller pinion (but 8T is about the smallest i know of)

Thanks for the info Brian. What you said reinforces my suspicion that I may have a wiring problem. Too high a KV would mean high head speeds, I am getting the opposite. Mine acts like the brushed motor with a half-dead battery. I think I finally got all the enamel off the individual strands coming out of the motor and will see if I have power tomorrow. The thought of too high a head speed sounds good at this point!

I know this sounds stupid, but are the blades on right? I put one on with the blade flipped over. It did not want to hover.
With the 2015-4100 himax and a 10T pinion you should have a very fast headspeed ..maybe 3500-4000 rpm with the stock transmitter.
Use a computer radio to change the throttle curve.

Dave,

Almost forgot about this thread. The problem was in the wiring, Himax has several coated strands in the wires coming out to the connectors ( that's why they say DON"T CUT THEM!) I had one or two not making contact when I soldered them (to anyone that makes the same mistake as I did, use an 800f or hotter soldering tip and the coating will melt off allowing the solder to stick to all of the strands). I am using an 8-tooth pinion and the motor is a bit hotter than I like but it flies fine. I live and fly at 6800ft and above so maybe that is why the higher Kv is working good for me.
