I crashed my rappy bad today, lost engine + expensive pipe. and usual blades.. spindle..etc. The total cost sums up to the price of a seadou 50 evo w/OS hyper combo from heliproz. Or I could just get another rappy kit and use the old parts as spares.

So... how much different will my experience with an EVO be. The raptor was .. just fine. I had trouble getting good punchout power with it.. but it wasnt horrible. I had very few if any mechanical issues with it. Hover was mostly stable but not handsfree type stablity. How am I and my pocket book going to like the EVO if thats the direction I go? What are some of the known issues with the EVO and what are the annoyances.?

Thanks
Austin

You're posting in the wrong forum with this question! Ask the same question in the Thunder Tiger forum and see what they say

I've sold all of my Raptors and now fly Hirobo exclusevely. Two EVO 50's and a EVO 90 that's almost finished.

I'm happy!

We just converted another raptor owner to an EVO owner today at our field. We let hin fly our EVO's and his first words we DAMN. He said he didnt have to fight it like the raptor (he has 3 raptors). He also has a Tiger 50 he's selling now.

I just switched to the Evo this weekend. I am running the OS Hyper .50 with a MP2. I am not sorry I switched. I took the time during the build to make sure everything was 100% balanced, lubed, etc. and was rewarded with one great flying heli. I am not sorry I switched.

Wow, the ground was closer than I thought.

The Evo is pretty damn good out of the box. Shortly will you probably want to upgrade to the Derlin main gear and metal radius block. Hard dampeners are also a plus. I also think the full metal washout set is a plus. I receintly upgraded to the full metal head and I really like it, especially the metal sea-saw. Ther eis more you can do, but you really don't need to do anything to get started.

Unlike the Raptor, you just buy the EVO, put it together, and go fly. About the only upgrade you'll need would be the CNC radius block and washout base, but you can replace those when they start showing signs of wear.

The EVO is pretty darn reliable, maintenance free, and a blast to fly.

and you say
The raptor was .. just fine.
Wait till you own an EVO.

The EVO will have the same collective punch as the Raptor - similar weights, same engine and blades. You will notice a big difference in how well it hovers and how well it tracks in fast forward flight. Don't do any upgrades off the bat. I 3D pretty hard with stock everything (including dampers and spindle). Delrin gears are a lot of money to make the heli quieter (I don't notice the noise on my black/stock gears - in fact, I have the delrin set from an old Sceadu and don't even bother putting it my EVO). Eventually the slide block will wear out, and you can replace it with the EX block that wears much better. That's it. The only thing I would do when building, is file the collars (that support the bearings for the washout arms and mixing arms) down a little to take any wobble out of the arms after you tighten the screws down. Other metal upgrades are nice bling but completely unnecessary.

GO with the Evo! The flight characteristics are much better than the Raptor without a bunch of upgrades. It tracks better in forward flight and hovers more precise.

Bottom line is you wont be sorry!

Our buddy lost his raptor this week end, about the only thing left was the belt and radio tray. it wasn't that hard of a hit,it threw off a T/R blade grip when he was about 10 feet off the ground inverted. the amazing thing was the FUNKY main blades didnt break. It even overreved and broke the rod in the engine. Now he's just going to slide the main blades into some EVO 50 blades grips. Hes been flying our EVO's quite a bit and wanted an excuse to switch. It broke the frames, main gear,T/R gear, bent the main shaft and blade axle, broke the T/R housing, main blade grips, broke the clutch bent the boom. The tail rotor hub broke right where the threades screw goes into the T/R hub. Looks like i'll be painting an EVO canopy instead of the Raptor canopy for him.

Just lately there seem to be hundreds of second hand Raptor 30s and 50s on the market. Why do you think that is.?

Yea heh.. see this is where I start wondering how far down the rabbit hole I'm gonna go. Because guess what...
I'm fixing my raptor... oh yes... AND
I'm getting an EVO. I couldnt part with the raptor, but I cant stand not having an EVO.

That way I'll allways have one to fix and one to fly. God this hobby is worst than smoking!

Having more than one is never a bad thing. Good luck with the EVO buildup.

He'll be too embarrased to sell it here. You'll see it on eBay or one of his friends will pop on RR as a "New Heliman"

ok this is a little off subject, and by all means not trying to hijack the thread..just wanted to say i'm very new into this hobby ( havent even bought heli..yet!!) been following the raptor since being interested in heli's about 6 months now.. practicing on the sim. doing research..all on the raptor, until a few days ago. now i'm digging deeper into the evo... i allways read in threads.. see what the pilots are flying at your field will make help more accesible.. well that would be the raptor. but a few things have turned me off the raptor just because of that.. the people in this forum seem to want to help.. not critisize.. big plus!!..
and sometimes its just the little things like that, that makes the difference.. along with a great product that needs little upgrading to perform.. from what i read soo far.. just wanted to say hello, thanks for all the great info and cant wait to get my evo!!!!
