I downloaded T-Rex 450 from trextunning.com for G3. I found it's very difficult to fly. In fact, it's the most unstable heli in all G3 helis...does it sound normal?

I tend to disagree, mine is easier to fly because I can see it better and dont get so disoriented, But the Sim is a lot easier to fix.

Yes, the sim is much easier to fix, heh. I do find I fly the G3 T-Rex much closer than my real one though, no fear of cutting my own throat
I just find the G3 T-Rex doesn't wander quite as much as a real one since it's set up as being mechanically perfect.

Right on there, mine is pretty solid as far as not drifting, I can keep in a 3' square all day, but the wind drive me crazy with the vertical control.

The trex model for g3 on the sim is easier for me then in real life. I even find it harder to see what way the heli is rolling to in real life, then on the sim. I put some prizma tape on my blades today to help out with that

I don't do anything fancy yet, so many that's why disorientation is not a problem yet. What is prizma tape ..

T-Rex in G3
I downloaded the T-Rex for G2 and found it difficult to fly. I quickly discovered that "Edit aircraft > Misc > Inertia" settings where all set to 00, so that was making it handle really weird. Once I set them down to 0, it handled much more as you would expect it to.

I made a quick yellow CDE version for that G3 T-Rex. If interested you can find it here:

Hi Strange
Do you know a link for a good CCPM Trex for G3?

Thanks!

Great Planes is still developing a G3 mod tool so we can create our own models...should be released soon. Also, the G3 TREX model flys NOTHING like a real TREX. But if you go into the modify model settings and establish dual rates, and increase EXPO, it is more true to life.

fwiw.

Mod G3
Thanks for your reply but can you explain to me exactly how to set that stuff up in G3 with the controller that came with it so it flies more like the real thing...

The thing I noticed is is that in FF when you are diving down it doesn't have much collective...That is to get it to cut back up-wards in FF you have to pull WAY back on the stick...It was nothing like this in Reflex XTR... Also the heli will side-slide the whole screen distance...which seems pretty unrealistic and never happened on XTR as well...

I wanted G3 to fly online though and hope I can dial it in so it is more realistic..

Thanks for all answers and help!

The "Side-Slide" happens to everyone...I crashed last night, while flying at the Grass Flatlands and my heli canopy flew over the mountain...the crashes are severely embellished, however the physics are phenominal...in terms of getting it to fly how you want it, just go into edit aircraft, and modify the EXPO in the "Software Radio", under output channels 1,2 and 4.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks!
I changed the EXPO rate from 20 to 30 on CH 2 and now i can climb much easier on forward flight...

This is great to know to adjust that...like if my real one does that i will know to turn up the Expo now and try that...

Well on to some simming :-)

The T-Rex in G3 flies EXACTLY like my T-Rex did nine months ago when I built the G3 model, I even timed the piro rate with a stopwatch to get it just right. I don't fly with any expo BTW. Since then of course I've added a full metal head, a 401, a CF frame and a better motor and now it's a totally different beast.

Yes, the G3 T-Rex is twitchy- If it weren't hard to fly, it wouldn't be a very helpful sim. The key is making it hard in the same way as YOUR heli. You can tone it down by increasing the weight of the flybar paddles if you'd like a softer slower response.

The odds that the G3 T-Rex flies EXACTLY like yours are next to nil. There is just too much variability in power systems and weights and blades (to name a few of the hundreds of variables) for even our real life helis to all fly exactly the same. I know my real heli feels much different than StrangeRanger's CDE or Nick's V2, and I personally can feel the difference between a 690g T-Rex and a 705g T-Rex. Even if you had two helis that were identical in components will fly completely differently just due to the setup (loosey ball links etc).

The G3 file is a good starting point, but there's no substitute for getting up to your elbows in the editor and learning how to mod the file for yourself. Usually all you need is a good ruler and an accurate scale. You'll never have a better simulator than if you get in there and mod it to fly like YOUR heli...

There are some problems (like the heli spinning on spool-up, or breaking itself) that I have not been able to fix (launching from pavement helps). If anyone figures out how to solve that one (or any other) feel free to PM me.

I've tweaked on the G3 t-rex quite a bit and it flies pretty close to my real one. The only thing that's obviously off is the sim's t-rex does autos beautifully. I need to somehow make it NOT do autos.
