Well, I've been flying a R30 for 3 years now and recently got a used R70. The heli has never flown but I did have to replace the clutch . Question is when I rotate the blades CW they turn free however when I turn them CCW there is some resistance and I hear the engine turning over. On the R30 the blades turn free in both directions. This doesn't seem right, but I thought I'd ask before pulling the engine out again

You have your clutch engaged with the clutch bell. Pull the engine to see that you have the proper clutch liner clearance and check to see if the top of the clutch is rubbing against the bell. If it is rubbing then you have the clutch too far up in the bell.
Hope this helps.

I thought of both of those possibilities. If the clutch was rubbing on the top of the bell I figured it would be rubbing in both directions. I do remember having a hard time screwing the bell on the starter shaft due to the lock tite. If the bell is not screwed in far enough the clutch will rub when the engine is installed. As far as liner clearance, I did place a layer of electrical tape on the clutch to assure proper clearance when gluing the liner in place. Is it possible to drag in one direction and not the other? Point is my heli is not setup right and blades should move freely in both direction correct? Thanks for the help

Well went out and gave it a try and can't turn freely in ether direction. I think I'll have to take it apart again. I Don't see how it could be the clearance. Must be dragging at the top.

Yep... it was dragging at the top. Must make sure the clutch bell if fully screwed on the drive pinion. If not the clutch will drag. I don't think it was dragging on the top of the bell but on the e ring that clips on the start shaft. Anyways problem solved.
