Titanium (in various alloys) has some of the features you desire. It's not cheap, & it doesn't do well in friction applications. For instance, it would gauld if you tried to run a "one-way" sprague type bearing against it. If you found it in 10mm you could reduce it with a centerless grinder, or lathe with a tool post grinder,or other O.D. grinder,,,, then have it hard chromed to slightly over 10mm then grind it again to 10mm. Now it won't gauld. It won't be cheap, it won't be easy, but it will be nice. If it's a perch for your parakeet, it's a little overboard, but like AirWolfRC stated, I'm not wasting any more of my time, if you can't be a little more specific with your intensions.

hollow main shaft
if you can find them the old original Xcells used a hollow 10mm mainshaft.

Bergen too,,,,,,,,,,,, best shafts in the industry.
Other than my non-existant hard chromed titanium shafts.

Why don't you use carbon or glass fibre rod or tube? Probably stiffer than any metal tube.

Given that your "mystery project" doesn't need rotary motion, you are looking at a BEAM,as opposed to a SHAFT. therefore, consider a"T" section or an "1" (that's supposed to be i -sect. ie with the same double- web at the top as is at the bottom...... but i can't find a character on the keyboard) This would give rigidity with the suspended load. the load is suspended from 2 points along the beam, we assume they both pick up at the same point on the load, therefore the strop is triangulated and there would be no endwise -movement. that leaves lateral movement. (think kid's swing from a crossbar) not good for the "t" or" i " beam to overcome this, you could mount the beam on knife-edge bearings in line with it's longitudinal axis, or slide a good-fitting ball-race over each end and support the outer races appropriately. your whole beam and weight could then be a rigid assembly which would be free to move laterally(clock pendulum escapement),or indeed, rotate as a shaft with a weight on it(centrifugal-govenor) . the beam would be stiffer in one plane ,for a given weight, than a solid bar,or a tube, but as everyone else has said..........without more information,we can't help you.
I am certain you problem has been addressed before in engineering circles. without a basic understanding of mechanics, you're P'ing in the wind ,looking for a solution. (but the Titanium is sophisticated! )

Thanks for the help
And I thought I was thinking too much.

My question was resolved through PM yesterday. I just didn't have time to update the topic.

And it isn't a mystery. A simple mount that I was just checking all my options for the right material. I described it through PM's with several people and just never put it on the board. No big deal.
