My LHS had an MX400 on the counter today. Total T-rex clone. Looked a bit on the cheapo side to me but who knows... it might be nice?!?

Anyway.. I was not impressed.

Just an observation.

I think it's more like the x400 by Ark...another clone. Tower sells it.

Yeah, but I'm not so sure anything that you can buy for well under $200, Trex or MX400, uses $3 mainshafts and $7 tail booms should really be looked upon as super high quality or cheapo. "They is what they is", so buy what you like and go have fun with it.

I spent several days at IRCHA with a MX400 under my nose. I really can't see where there were any big quality issues compared to a Trex. Hell, a Trex has a swashplate which can be, shall we say, "exciting" in flight. The biggest difference is the ali frames on the MX versus the molded ones on the Trex. Both should be OK for minor mishaps, at which point "broke" is pretty well equivalent to "bent".

I hear ya Ben. When I say "cheapo" I mean for the price range. I just felt that the trex looked more solid to me (for that given price range)

There are cheap Cadillacs in the entire Cadillac fleet as well!

I thought that the mx400 was the ark400. It was my understanding that great planes bought the design.

Someone sent me this link. It looks like a reasonably unbiased comparison of the two models in terms of construction. With the stacked ali frames, there are some definite points to the MX WRT control stiffness.
