Those little hardened pins seem like overkill for the retaining pin. Plus they're more likely to fall out (mine has many times, just from me handling the heli and working on its set-up).

Went to Office Max, got some small paper clips (they call them #2). Identical diameter to the stock pin. I put one end in, crimp it down, cut the other end, crimp it down, quick and easy and its not going to fall out.

Its soft metal, so my question is, do you think it will hold up under normal flight conditions? I know its more likely to sheer in a crash, but that might be a good thing if it saves the gears/blades/whatever.

Thoughts?

I use 0.040 dia. piano wire, which I cut a mm or 2 longer than stock, so I can get them out after a crash. CA them in place with a drop after installing pins.

Your soft pins may sheer off during spool up or flight. I would not use them. Good luck.

Thanks Gary, that's a good idea on the piano wire.

Again, guys, thanks for tolerating all the noob questions. I appreciate the help.
