I really don't see how you derived that conclusion. The main needle has most effect at the top end, its tested by doing full throttle climb out. If you open up the main to cater for a lean mid range, you'll get an overly rich top end. And the idle needle on this carb doesn't affect the mid range much either, its mostly at the very lower end.
If it gets lean when you go from Idle1 or 2 and down to hover, the main needle might be a tad lean.
Hence the problem with this carb - you can't easily tune the mid without making sacrifices to either the lower or top end, usually you have to suffer with an overly rich top end to get the mid & lower-mid tuned OK.
