Its the carb, its crap, all lean down the bottom end. Do a search for "cateye mod". The 60k carb is a good replacement, esp if you give it to James ONeal to put a cline on

Hi there.
If it gets lean when you go from Idle1 or 2 and down to hover, the main needle might be a tad lean.
Easy check: Let the heli idle for a minute, then take it up into hover. If it is ok there and you can hover forever with rich and nice mixture, the low needle is ok.
If it gets lean here as well, you need to open the low needle.

If it is ok up from idle to hover, then you will have to richen your main needle a click or two to get rid of your lean run when comming down from idle up and into normal.

Good luck.

I really don't see how you derived that conclusion. The main needle has most effect at the top end, its tested by doing full throttle climb out. If you open up the main to cater for a lean mid range, you'll get an overly rich top end. And the idle needle on this carb doesn't affect the mid range much either, its mostly at the very lower end.

Hence the problem with this carb - you can't easily tune the mid without making sacrifices to either the lower or top end, usually you have to suffer with an overly rich top end to get the mid & lower-mid tuned OK.
