I have a Raptor 30 with a os32. the engine will start great, Idle great, and fly great for about 5 minutes then the engine will start to lose power and settle down from over heating. After a few minutes and it cools down it will do it all over again. Any ideas what's doing on. Thanks Tommy

richen up your main needle!!
You already know that your engine is overheating and why are you still punishing the engine??

Tommy, from your description it sounds like things start out very normal and not lean, and after a period you get this runaway effect.

This is normally what happens when your fuel system cannot hold the pressure from the exhaust - it goes ok to start with but once you get into idle up or after a while of running, it can't hold the pressure so the engine goes lean.

You have to check your exhaust gasket for leaking, the muffler, ALL the fuel lines for pin holes, replace the clunk line, check the fuel tank rubber bung for pin holes and perishing, check the fuel filter for leaks. You have to be really very picky to sort this out - I've seen this happen several times, we've torn our hair out chasing this problem.

But please do note - it's a terrible thing to run lean - best to get on top of this ASAP

Thanks Jafa, that sounds like sound advise, I had not though about that. At this point I think I will just replace all of that, much cheaper than a new engine. No, I had not been trying to fly lean, just hover to check it out after richening the needle. Thanks again

With such a small motor without much extra poop,, could the problem also be compounded by too much pitch/not enough throttle at the hover point also? Also if head speed is slow and you are lugging or loading the motor too much it could overheat after awhile too. You said you were just hovering. I agree with what everyone else says to check also. I would make sure head speed is kept up with a small motor to keep it in it's power band and use just enough pitch to get the job done.
Just another thought

Low compression will cause that symptom, worn out piston or loose head.

I had the same problem the heli would fly good for a few minutes and then lose power, i let it idle for 30 sec and hover just to drop again. I found my fan hub loose causing the rod to drag on the back plate, also the head was loose.

I doubt the Cool Power ruined your TT Engine. More likely it was you or perhaps the engine was bad to begin with.

Hey Fly It All!
I Had exactly the same problem for quiet a while....
Turned out my problem was just impropper tuning abilities lol...
But none the less it made the engine a sod to tune and she would always run really hot etc...

So one day my infamuous brother somes by and says *Tell ya what, give me an hour and i'll have yr engine purring like a pussycat"
I laughed.. yes i did....

And when went out back he had the heli idling with a dish under the muffler...

What was he up to?
He ran 3 tanks thru her at idle and sickly rich...

The result...
For an engine that just wouldnt tune and only run within about a 3 click window...
This little OS32SHX is now the most reliable engine i'v ever had.
She will actually run in a TWO Whole turn window...

I dont know how it works but it does... well, worked wonders for me

Give it a try and see how it does...

I'v bin running a little rich for longer than i can remember, but when i lean it out a little, she's got quiet some grunt for a 32

SkateFreak - Which version o the 32SX-H do you have - ringed or ABN? They each need a different break in method.
