What is the expected max for headspeed using the Mega 16/15/3 on 3s?

Using 13t I get 2400. Seems low.

With 0 pitch, 13T pinion, TP2100 Pro Lite 3S can get over 2700rpm (never tried to max it out).
Right now I've got it set for 2600rpm in governor mode, measured with the heli strapped down and approx +4deg pitch. It doesn't really seem to bog during full pitch climbouts but without an optical tach I'm just going by sound
I know this might sound stupid and I don't mean it that way but, count and double count the number of teeth on the pinion you're running. I accidentally put an 11T on once and was scratching my head trying to figure out why I couldn't get more headspeed.

Hi,

Just been wondering, does this motor suite the Align's 25 amp ESC?

Thanks.

The cc25 should be ok for the align motor for a moderate power setup.

Kevn,
You don't have an optical tach? How do you know what your headspeed is then?

Like probably 90% of the people here, I use a digital tach. As I said, I strap the heli down and measure the headspeed with approx +4 deg pitch (don't like loading it up too much while strapped down).

Why strap it down? Couldnt you just spin it up on the ground and accomplish the same?
I do spin it up on the ground. But since I usually check the headspeed in my living room by myself, I'd rather have it strapped down when it's spinning at 2600rpm and I'm adding positive pitch. Call me a coward

Hi hikscub

Running the 13t pinion on the trex with a 3s setup works out at a motor speed of 37800 rpm and the gear ratio is 11.53/1 so the rpm on the head would be in theroy 3278 rpm @ 0 deg pitch but then take into account motor frictional los ect ect i normaly take away 20 % so i would work on a head speed of 2622 rpm
So taking into account your li-po quality then i would say 2400 rpm on the head sounds about right
You are probaly running a little high on the pitch try lowering your pitch curve a little to let your motor sing i run approx 3 deg in the hover

I'm not familiar with the digital tacks. I just bought a cheapy $24 tack from tower. Can you point me to a digital one on the web?

Unfortunately I can't get much over 2400 with 0 pitch! My lipos must suck. Or maybe I got a bum Mega.

Chances are, the one you bought is a digital tach. This is the one I have (not sure what's digital about it other than the display), probably the same one you have if you got it from Tower:

Well they are digital because of the screen and the little controller that counts the revolutions and divides by time.

I'm running a CC25 (version 1.10 software), TP2100 Pro Lite 3s, Futaba 7CHP with throttle endpoints set at 100% down and 140% up. Throttle in governor mode at 98% will get me just over 2700RPM with 0 pitch and 335mm woodies on a 13T pinion.
Who knows, maybe my tach is off or something.

Himax 2815-3000 (its a Mega 16/15/3 clone) with a 13T pinion, I'm getting 2641 headspeed 0 pitch. 2490 at full positive pitch (around 10 degrees) without a governor.

seems low to me also. i ran that set up and got around 2700 at first, but lost headspeed after about 5 minutes. i ran a 14t pinion with better results on that setup. oh ya , i used a cc25 on that setup.

I think I read in some thread that that tach the ones that Tower sells are not for Helis and will not give you exact headspeed accurately? I was planning on getting a GeeBee or that same tach you posted..

Any comments on these?

I think we need those optical tachs but they are way over my budget..

I think my tail belt was too tight. I loosened it up and got some more speed. I think the belt needs to be a little looser than the directions say.

Climbout is much better now. Next, cleaning up the tail wag....

BTW, Castle told me not to use 1.16 on the cc35, they say to use 1.14.

The belt will definitely suck power, and you are right, I think they should be looser than the manual states... One other thing to try, depending on your speed controller, is to set the high endpoint for the throttle channel above 100% and see if you can get more power out of it, some speed controllers max out higher than 100% on a transmitter.

But Honey, I can't live with just stock.....
