What exactly is the meaning of this?

If my motor is a 2500KV does that mean it gets 2500 RPM per volt? Sounds logical, but is KV kilovolts?

Thanks,

Gary

Kv: The motor voltage constant expressed in RPM's per Volt. This indicates how fast the motor will turn for a given voltage (given there is no internal resistance). i.e. a motor whose Kv rating is 4,300 RPM/Volt will turn at 30,960 RPM with 7.2 volts applied (7.2V times 4,300K/V).

Kv ??? More questions
So shouldn't it really be

2.5 Kv instead of 2500 Kv?

If the K is 1000, then it should be

(2.5 * 1000/v ) * 7.2 volt Li-Po = 18000 RPM

Just wondering at the units there.

Maybe the k is not for kilo.

There are alot of constant in physics that are known as Kxxx. Where K just means constant.

Don't forget this is just the speed the motor will try to run at a given voltage, you would only likely see this on a free running motor.

Pitounet is getting there. these are not standard units. they are specific constants used in calculating motor effeciencies.

Kv=voltage constant
Io=no load current (amperage lost to internal losses)
Rm=motor equivalent resistence (losses to the windings)
Kt=torque per amp

so, dont get confused into calculating your headspeed, and gear ratios to choose a motor with that Kv....the Kv is the 'perfect world' rpms the motor would turn (per volt supplied) if there were no losses in the engine or the rest of the circuit.

if it ain't broke, break it.

what is the kv of the mega 16/15/3 ???
I almost hate to ask such an obvious question, but I'm new to electrics. I see this format (16/15/3) frequently to describe motors. Can someone tell me what the three numbers represent?

Thanks.

If only every manufacturer used the same code for labelling motors Unfortunately telling you what 16/15/3 would only work for Mega Motors, not Axi or Hacker, or..............

the only ones you can roughly translate are the 3-digit ones....like 380 or 400, 450, etc.

still doesnt translate into anything meaningful, except that they are all generally about the same physical size (supposedly the length of the can in mm)....so you can guess they'll mate up to install at least

if it ain't broke, break it.
