Salem Oregon is home, I work in Iraq

My Posts: All  Forum  Topic

I am planning my next vacation, which will be around August of next year, and am trying to find a good place to take my wife. We basically have unlimited funds, but time may be an issue. So far, I have been in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Dubai, London (I realize this isn't a country, but only place in England I have been), Canada, Amsterdam, Thailand, Japan, China, Scotland (briefly), and Texas.

I am considering taking a trip to Australia or Ireland, but would like to know where other people have been and if they would recommend I take my wife there. Thanks for your responses!

I have made plenty of bad choices in my life, but at least I was never a Marine!

Personally I would go to Hawaii, I know it isn't a country, but it is a nice place to visit. I use to live there for 38 years before I moved here. Not much to do or see in Australia. I would suggest you take your vacation in New Zealand, tons to do there.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Don't drink and drive. You might hit a bump and spill your drink.

Almost a year in the Philippines, a few years in southern Italy. But the place I most long to return to: Alaska - in the summertime! (Careful o' them skeeters, though, they'll haul you away!)

Saint
I was going to go to Hawaii actually, because my aunt owned a hotel and some condo's there, however she just has a child and went to Santa Barbara to do, and she would KILL me if I went to Hawaii and she wasn't there to show me around.

As far as Alaska, I am going to go there, but have to wait. My cousin is running a salmon hatchery (or whatever it is called), and wants to have plenty of time off when we go there.

Doesn't Australia have nude beaches? Always good to see the "down under", right?

I have been to:
Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Spain, Ireland, Bosnia, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Belgium, Luxemburg, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Kosovo, and a few others. I would recommend Ireland. The country is absolutely beautiful, the people are too friendly, and it's a great place to visit!

I spent two years in Iceland, and a weekend in Scottland. Both beautiful places and I really want to go back to Iceland.

I just think that Hawaii has by far better beaches, water and weather then in Australia. No beach in Australia can compare to a beach in Hawaii. Besides the water here is fricken cold, feels like a beer esky. In Hawaii the water temperature is 26 degrees all year around. I'm sure there are lots of things to do here, but everything is so far away. If I want to go skiing or snow boarding I have to drive 6 hours south. If I want to go rock climbing, the closest place is about a two hour drive.

I still think New Zealand has heaps of things to do, like ice climbing, rock climbing, helicopter skiing, bungee jumping, etc.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

If you've never been, you should go to Czech at least once. Prauge is a beautiful city, as is Krakow. I've been a few times, and it has to be one of the most beautiful places I've been to. I was an Airforce brat, my family was stationed in the UK in the early 80s, and I've been to just about everywhere in western Europe, and a good portion of Eastern Europe, and Czech and Germany (Stuttgart especially) are the places I want to bring my wife to someday.

My wife and I spent 8 weeks touring the east coast of Australia, best place I've ever gone! The Whitsunday islands are incredible. Hamilton Island it was called at the time, may have changed as I heard that they guy who owned it went bankrupt.

I am seriously considering Australia. Actually, to be honest, my wife and I are thinking about moving out of the US. So if we go to Australia, it will be looking for a new home most likely.

Hi Tattoo -

Australia has some really good places to visit, and some good places to live.

Fly to Cairns in the north of Queensland, take a trainride inland, or take a boatride to Green Island, or both. You will be happy.

Train or airplane to Brisbane, beautiful city, rent a car and drive to Surfers Paradise. Best beach in the world, good resort area and good shopping for the ladies.

On to Sydney, where you have reservations for a play/concert/or just dinner in the Sydney Opera house. Check out Kings Cross for night life. Sydney Botanical Gardens are well worth the effort too.

I have been to these places, and I liked them.
