Raj,
Congratulations! I will be flying my body around at dawn tomorrow morning also... (But in a Cessna... I like seeing who I am landing on!)

Enjoy... clear skies and tailwinds...

One engine will kill ya,a Seneca would have been my choice
Two engines just get you to the scene of the crash quicker. A Cherokee 6 is a good plane. I have a couple dozen hours in one. Congratulations on your new purchase.

Nice plane Raj, I've got some time in Cherokee 6s, and they are a great combination of performance, simplicity, and safety. Not a lot of fixed singles that have the performance of the 6. Very nice, kick's my single's ass, a Grumman Yankee. Course, I've also got one that will take me quicker to the scene of the accident, a B58 Baron, but a twin is way to expensive to fuel to fly it for fun, so if I'm not being paid to fly, the Baron sits on the ground.

Hey Raj, I will drive to Ponca City if you need to get some flying time. Always wanted to do some aerial photography of that part of the state.

I had a complete engine failure once in a six. I dont know if they still exist but both mags used to be in one encasing and when one would desinergrate it would throw broken parts into the other and cause it to fail. the one that happend to me in was changed to two independant mags. I do say this, that is one helluva plane. Great for trips with people and bags. Wish I had one.

Twins r more dangerous.
Saying that blindly with no qualification is ignorant. If you were to say "For the guy without proper training and currency, in an engine failure", then yeah, I agree with you. If you are not a competent pilot who can stay ahead of the aircraft, then yeah, you are better off in a single in the event of an engine failure. Simply because that guy will not react correctly and end up losing control of the plane. Better to glide in under control than spin in with your second engine running.

In ANY other situation, your statement is total BS. Flying IFR, you lose a vacuum pump in the clouds or have an electrical failure, what are you going to do. In my Baron, big deal, I've got a complete backup, they only difference I would see is a warning light. You'd be partial panel in a single. Or, also IFR, you lose an engine, the ceiling is at 600ft AGL. Would you like to glide in blind in your single, or be with me in my twin, and we can keep flying to an airport? How about over mountainous terrain? Water? Or the old favorite, you lose an engine on takeoff, 300AGL taking off over a populated area, you want to glide into a house, or feather a prop and keep flying? Bottom line, a competent pilot in a twin is 100% safer than the same guy in a single. If you are a regular old private pilot flying VFR once a month for an hour, you have no business in the left seat of a twin.

Where would you rather be in bad weather over hostile terrain, cruising along in any single, or flying next to me in my Baron? If you don't pick the Baron, you are a fool.

thanks
Thanks for the comments guys! It's a fun little airplane, I can haul my wife and 2 other couples with no problem.

I fly professionally, Gulfstream II, III, and an EMB 135LR. I will be going to school on our new Gulfstream G450 and G550 in August.

I use the Cherokee for fun rather than travel so owning a twin is not a big desire, especially the significantly higher costs associated with it.

Yeah, I was kind of nervous getting back into a single engine airplane after flying jets for the last 8 years. I can tell you one thing, I'm always looking outside for other traffic since the chreokee does not have TCAS, and I'm also looking for emergency landing areas

I'm nervous as a cat when flying at night now, I guess once your used to having state of the art equipment and flying at 30K-40K feet, it spoils you

Later,

Raj
