Hi ripperxcell,

That should not be a problem. I would really recomend 2S lipos to get the weight down.

Small FP helis will pitch up in ff, but there are some cheap mods that can reduce the pitching.

One of the problems with piccolo in ff is the coning angle of the main blades.

To remove some of the coning you can stiffen up the blade holder (the one that pops off when you crash). One way to do this is by prolonging the bolts that hold the main blades and add a brace that spans between the two bolts - this brace would be parallel to the main blade holder. Just make sure that there is some room between the brace and the hub so that the mixer arms can operate.

In addition you can try out some of the pitch disks to increase head speed.

I have 50 flights on my Fun Piccolo so far. Before starting I read every posting I could find on the web, and they all were right! Here is a quick list of the things needed to be successfull.
1. Must use separate electronics. A high frequency (60 khz) speed control for the tail rotor is needed to not burn up motors. The Astro Flight controller for the firefly coreless motor works great. 3 cell lithium polymer battery 700 mah keeps the weight down. The piccoboard will burn up on 3 cell Li-Poly.

2. Rotor head speed is too slow for any control in forward flight. I tried the Ikarus tuning blades and didn't help any that I could tell. Need to cut 1.5" off each rotor blade and 1/4" off each tail rotor blade. Must use 3 cell if you cut blades. Will not hover on 2 cell with cut blades.

3. A rotor head stiffener can be made easily from Dubro turnbuckle and rod end fittings and mounts to the top of the rotor head. Carbon TOW strip CA'd to the bottom of the rotor blades about 1/3 back from the leading edge and carbon fiber reinforcement un the underside at the blade attachment points stiffens the blades.

Works, but higher rotor speeds does break things like anti-rotate pin.

I just trimmed a bit off the trailing edge on the main blades to get the rpm up, about 7mm @ root and 4mm @ tip, and am using 3s lipo. It still doesn’t fly like a normal RC heli, you need to hold a bit of forward like a full size heli, but it FF’s much better than stock, my micro dog likes to chase the pic around the garden and it goes fast enough to outrun him while still being quite controllable.

I tried cutting the blade tips down and that helps with FF, but is not as stable for indoor hovering, trimming the trailing edge seams to provide both good FF and hovering.
