Yes there is!!! I have a hi 8 mm sony....I use the program called pinnacle studio....it came with a vid card that you stick in a pci slot and you can use an s-video cable to upload.... granted its not as fast to upload but it works.... the beauty of pinnacle is you can edit and add special effects to all of your home movies and burn them to DVD>.. I love it

Pinnacle studios is also included with "Dazzle" Dazzle is a device that hooks up to your usb port and to your camcorder via RCA line outs or S-video. I have one and it works great. Costly though. All the big consumer electronics stores have them. About $69 to $89 dollars. Search ebay for dazzle and you should get some deals. Good luck. Bill

What graphics card have you got on your computer? Some have the ability to do 'video in' as well as 'video out'.

Cheers,

Nigel

the pinnacle studio 9 comes with a pci card that you put in your computer that has an svideo input as well as RCA... so if you have either the s video out or rca out on your camcorder it will work....
USB is pretty slow on the HI8s

I use this one to capture video from my VCR and camcorder. Works very well. Look on eBay for it. Should sell for about $45. I've used it to copy VHS tapes to DVD. I'm happy with it.
