Yes, Ray Hostetler is coming out with a 3 volume DVD series.
I happen to see a preview and it is excellent.

The first volume is the "arm chair setup" of the radio.

Volume 2 is the complete mechanical heli setup

Volume 3 is the flight and trimmimg of the heli.

The DVD is setup in chapters and you can navigate around as most DVD's are designed.

By the time you are done, the heli is flying all trimmed out, including loops, rolls, auto's, etc..

Ray uses the Raptor 50 and the JR 9303 for the series, however he explains that any combimation will work as directed.

It's nice to see material which you can follow along and be able to go back and reference sections as needed. My personal problem has always been the setup of the heli and I just so happen to have a Raptor 50 so this should be a nice addition to my library!

I personally am looking forward to the series.

Any release dates? Will it be in theatres soon?

The Lord of the Rotory Wings trilogy?

In all seriousness, though, any word on the time of relase?

He has written a couple of good instruction books on helis for beginners...most is great stuff except the part where he straps on a helmet and ties his heli to a step ladder ..

Wonder if the DVD will have the part about hanging the heli upside down off goal posts to learn inverted flight...??

I just looked at his book, I really like the part where the Heli is strapped to the top of the ladder, and the dude with the Football helmet!, standing underneath ready to tune it up!,Way to go Ray!

If you actually read the book you'll find that 98% of the information is very helpful.

It's anticipated that the series will be released by the end of this month or early next month. I'm sure that when it's released it will be posted on RR. I talked to Ray yesterday and it won't be that long until it's available. From what I hear it will be worth the wait. Hang in there.

I am almost finished with it now, just a couple more chapters. I think that there IS a ton of useful stuff in there...almost too much to comprehend all at once. It is a great tool to add to the bench, however, especially when building a new bird.

I read the book several times and it was a great primer. I bought the book before I had a heli and then consulted with my friend Brent who has been flying helis since the 80's and he also laughed about the ladder and helmet method.

He said he's never seen anyone anywhere, other then Ray perform that and he's been all over the world (Military). Seemed like a good idea, but I've since learned that tuning the engine by temperature and flight characteristics refines your sensitivity to how the heli flies.

I still use the book for reference on geometry setup, curve setups, and some building tips.

I think the wood blade building section is a bit dated to say the least. I'd hedge to bet a small percentage of people on this board, if any actually lay up their own blades these days.

Also, some insight into the governor catagory would be interesting. Also, more on power systems (NiMH, Li-Ion, Li-po, regulators, etc.). Selecting quality flight equipment.

Some more flight-style specific setups since they do vary slightly between F3C and 3D.

I have watched the DVDs. I think they are wonderful and everyone should have a set, especially newcomers.
