Started practising approaches for autos last week on my raptor50 and all has been going well. Today i bit the bullet and i am happy to report i completed my first autos! I had such a rush today doing autos but one thing has led me to ask a question here.

Initially ok but later on after a few autos, when i hit throttle hold the engine didn't drop straight away. It took maybe 2 to 3 seconds to slow to idle properly. Whilst it was doing this i noticed that the heli fealt different in the descent (like i couldn't spool the blades fast enough). Could this be because the clutch was still slightly engaged?

What could be causing the engine not to go straight to tickover whilst it has been fine up until earlier on.

Fuel - Coolpower 15%
Main needle almost 1.25 turns out, mixture needle slightly lean of norm.

My guess is that the engine is too lean, try richening the bottom end slightly and try again.

Does the clutch grab at all when the heli is at tick over ?

Ryan.

Make check your low end mixture by doing a pinch test, it should speed up in 3 seconds or so, if not your too rich, if it speeds up right away its too lean.

Also check your auto hub isnt locked up.

The clutch doesn't grab at tickover and i havn't done a pinch test on this engine. I'll check out the bottom end as suggested with the pinch test, cheers. The one way clutch spins quite freely, i checked that when i got home.

The mixture is too lean.

Richen up the LS needle and back off the HS needle and see if this cures it. Then sneak back up on the HS needle to see if the throttle still hangs on throttle hold.

Check the auto gear.It locks up and will slow your RPM untill the clutch fully disengages.Whenever an auto is a little funny, that is the usual cause.

You will hear a too lean mixture, but the blades should still spool up fine.

Pinch the carb line off and listen. If the low end is too lean the motor will speed up (or quit) right away. If its about right it will speed up in 3 seconds (and quit if you hold it). If it doesnt speed up by 3 seconds the low end is rich.

The only stupid question is one you don't ask.
