I would choose the UBEC from koolflightsystems. Medusa makes good products but I have only used their smaller bec's.

I have the Medusa on mine right now, haven't gotten to install the Kontronik yet.

Don't consider an SBEC. I know it wasn't on your list, but just a warning.

So far I would have no concern trusting either the UBEC or Medusa.

I have both, but use a Medusa on mine now with no glitches or issues. It was sort of surprising actually.

Here's what helped my decision for 2 helis- Koolflight offers a 5.4volt Ubec. It's not listed on the sight, but you can call or specify in your order. Price is the same as the 6 volt version. It's the perfect compromise between getting a little more servo performance, yet not beating on your gyro servo.

It will work on 5.4 volts. Some even run 5.6v without problems. The digital servo is the only thing that is not rated for 6v.

A fully charged 4 cell NiCd will be around 5.4 volts so that voltage should be fine.

That should not be a problem.
It is made to work with a 4,8V rx battery that probably have close to 5,4V fully charged.

Edit: I guess we posted simultaneously Mudbogger2 & Dr Lodge

I recently emailed Futaba concerning the 401/9254 max voltage.
After first getting a generic "auto reply answer" which didn't offer any help, John G. (Product Support Lead Technician from Great Planes) replied, "You can regulate that to 6.0 volts."

I take this as it will handle 6.0v, but not over.
I was then more comfortable with the decision to run at 5.4v

By error I used a 401 + 9253 on a 5 elements nicd 6V(fully charged etc), for around 30 flights on a raptor. It seems gyro and servo are still alive... I found it was "buzzing" a lot... Hope if it still works it means everything is fine on the servo ...

Mhw, I'm using a Medusa BEC in my Logo 14. I had a Multiplex receiver (with JR TX) and had terrible problem with it tripping into failsafe whenever i did a right banking turn with the heli on my left. I can't justifiably say that the Medusa is the cause yet. It might be because the receiver is on the opposite if the heli at that orientation.

I swapped out the Multiplex Reciever for a JR PCM RX and it does the same thing on the first right hand turn of the first flight of the day. After that it's fine, go figure.

Other than that, my Medusa is working fine. I have a UBEC for my latest plank project so i'll see how that compares.

I could have started a new thread, but that may have pissed off too many people

IMO, it seems Switching Becs are NFG. I have lost so many models cause of them, and also my Kontronic Jazz 40-6-18 must also be giving off some electrical noise. What we need is a Linear reg that we can run off our HV packs. Lots of people are using the Arizona reg with 2 lithium Ion cells. If only we could run it off our flight pack.

hmm

I've been very happy with my 5v Medusa so far. Works like a charm.
