Just bought a Hawk Sport with a TT .39. Does anyone have any info on this combo. I've heard conflicting information on the performance up here at 5280'!

I have read that it's a powerful motor, but you better ask how long it will last on the Thunder Tiger page, better ask how easy it is to tune too, I know their 36 had a tuning issue ...

TT .39...
I had a TT .36 in my Hawk at first. Had trouble tuning it. Finely after some time I got it set right and it did fine until the glow plug blew out (something I was not aware of when I bought it second hand) of it. While waiting on a fix for that, someone here on RR offered me an OS .32 SX-H. I took it and haven't run the TT since. I'm sure as long as you run the TT as rich as possible, it should last until you have passed the hovering only stages. I'd use it for now and see how it goes. If tuning becomes a real problem then look for an OS 32 or even the OS .37. Remember that the low end needle controls your low to mid range (hovering) settings.

Later...

BTW, TT's seem to run a little hotter than OS's, so keep it the needles at least a little on the rich side.

Hawk Sport - OS 37SZ-H
Raptor 30 - OS 37SZ-H

Works fine and reliable.

I had one in a Century Schweitzer 300. Smooth and reliable on 30%. No comment on other blends.

Only catch is to keep an eye on the front bearing leaking. Was really the only problem people had on the TT .39.

Have a Hawk Pro with Toki .40 and absolutely love to bang it around. GREAT combo for 3D'n and fuel economy.

I had a Thunder Tiger 39 in my Hirobo Schweizer 300. It was great until an unfortunate (broken throttle arm) lean run. They hate to be run lean. It also leaked a bit from the front bearing.

I fly a TT .39 in my hawk, I have also flown the OS .32. The TT is a powerhouse compared to the 32, but from what I hear it is slightly less than the Toki. The needle does not have as much of a sweet spot as the OS, but you can easily err on the side of rich and it will still run fine. There is plenty of power for acrobatics. It will pull 9 degrees no problem, 10 okay but sags at more than that.

My best recommendation is to run the Uniflow setup. The TT tends to lean towards the end of the tank, it is much less pronounced with the uniflow setup. Also, start with the low end needle, it controls much of the mixture into 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. It runs best slightly rich on the low end. It will be warmer than an OS32, but doesnt seem to hurt it.
